    Dolan to scour England

Cork City boss Pat Dolan looks set for a return trip to England in the New Year in search of new players.

The City supremo knows the team needs strengthening if it is to compete with Shelbourne and he hopes to use all his club contacts to find new players.

    I spoke too soon.

i just looked up the blackpool fc website and Scott Taylor has been sold to Plymouth for £100,000. He would have been a great player to get.

well another Murphy or another Gamble in terms of ability in whatever position would be a result.

a central midfielder, a right sided midfielder and cover at centre half are the priorties IMO

I always think that LOI clubs should look all round the place for players. Most LOI players would be paid more than domestic players in many parts of Africa, Central America and Asia for instance.

For instance the captain of Uzbekistan Mirdjalal Kasimov has returned to his homeland after the expiry of his contract with Russian side Alaniya Vladikavkaz. If he was good enough to play in the Russian premier league he must be of a high standard. Hes 34 so would probably have two seasons in him. Hes 34. City should be looking for these type of players (preferably younger).

agreed. look at the success mbabazi had here. there must be a lot of players who'd like to play in europe's bigger leagues but have trouble getting noticed or getting work permits. no reason why the eL couldn't act as a stepping stone for some of that talent.

I've often thought that too, even places like Poland, which have just joined the EU so no work permit issues, the domestic wage there is bound to be a lot lower than here and a club should be able to pick up some talented players pretty cheap. We have a former Lithuanian international coming over for pre-season with us so we can check him out
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Well Dave Morisson has signed for Kidderminster Harriers. He would have been a good signing.

While I definitely agree with clubs looking towards the new EU countries for talent, I don't agree with bringing in old players who are on their last legs. Under 25 talent is a minimum IMO. That way they are close to their prime yet would still require a decent transfer fee from a club accross the water. There are loads of polish here in cork and maybe a pole or 2 in the CCFC squad would increase the gates.

Dolan is off to the uk cos he'll have some contacts there & can tell from previous signings how players will adapt. Its very hard to know how a polish player will fit into the eL but clubs shoul probably look to having contacts over there...
