    Radio News

According to yesterdays Live 95 fm sports Bulletin at 2pm...Limerick Fc are to advertise in the national press for a new senior, u21 and youth team managers,I thought that NOC was a cert for the senior position. Are they just advertising in the interest of Fairness or is it all Bull? It also said that Paul Finnucane is considering an offer from a dutch club , Does anybody know what club it is??

Leonidas FC, an amateur club playing in one of the district leagues in Rotterdam. It isn't anywhere near EL standard, more like Junior premier or 1a, but they have shed loads of cash, and are 'owned' by one of the Charlottes Quay Pharmacy directors.
Good move financially, bad move from a football perspective.

beg to differ joe, leonidas fc are seemingly a club very wealthy and are making big strides they are a feeder club for feyenoord and as far as i know from talking to paul they are in the second or third division of the national league, personally i think it would be an excellent move for him especially as there isnt much to keep him here

After a bit of searching - Leonidas are not in the Dutch second division. The best they could be is third division. The Feyenoord feeder club is called Excelsior - they are in the second division. Perhaps Leonidas is a feeder club of the feeder club of Feyenoord.

There is another Leonidas in Maastricht.

It seems that they are better than Limerick junior but not as successful as exile suggests.

IMO opinion it would be a bad move for him. If he did want out of Limerick (just as things start happening for the club and there is the prospect of a better future) then he could get a Premier club to move for him. Waterford are interested for example.

There seem to have been quite a few friendlies between Leonidas of Rotterdam and eL clubs in recent years - Shels beat them 2-1 a few years ago and they were beaten by Drogheda a few years ago too. There is a player with Ards (Paddy Quinn) who came back to play for Dundalk. an't be particularly attractive if he chose Dundalk over them.

By the way - will Jal come back? Please say he will...

Well I just slogged through Google trying to find details for either Leonidas FC or even a league table for the third and/or fourth tiers of Dutch football but can't find anything.

If the club are that hihg up in the Dutch footballing ladder I'd reluctantly conclude that Paul should probably make a go of it, on a personal level it would be quite an experience too. On the other hand if he's essentially going to be playing non-League football then I wouldn't see much point to be honest, especially as he's apparently not short of suitors closer to home...

    Ideally, he'll stay with us.

They are an amateur club, and to run the risk of repeating myself, are playing the equivalent of Junior football in Holland. They are not a feeder club to anyone, but are wealthy as they are run by the same bunch of pharmacists that sponsor us. They do not play in the National Dutch league. They can afford to pay players like Paul probably a lot more than we can, and give him better terms, but he would not be doing his career any great favours by going there. As for there not being much to keep him here, well, thats a personal opinion I suppose, but I have high hopes for the next two seasons, and I feel that being a vital part of the re-birth of Limerick soccer is indeed, something to look forward to.

is there any chance that he may have got a job with this company and he is either getting trained in holland or been assigned to a job located over there, and that the club is just the local club for that area in holland? that sounds more realistic to me???

None of the above. The sponsors sent over a player from Holland last season, and probably identified Finny as a suitable target.

If I was wearing my more cynical hat, I could suggest that certain elements within the club who have close ties with the sponsors might be dropping names to them of the clubs best players in a spiteful manner to cause trouble.......that's if I was wearing my cynical hat, that is....

i stand corrected joe, all i will say is that i was talking to paul himself and he told me they are in the second or third division he wasnt too sure, if it was me and that was the case i would be gone for dust!! but on that note he hadnt heard from them for over a week and any transfer has to be completed by the 4th of jan deadline day,so if he can be kidnapped or something until then he will still be a limerick player, the other stumbling block seems to be the 50k compensation

They want him to sign before the 4th and were pressuring him to do so. They also seem to have spoonfed him lies about the stature of the club, and what their ambitions and levels really are...Paul, being the nice, trusting lad that he is, seems to have swallowed the lot.The more I think of it, it definitely reeks of something troublesome and started by someone from within trying to damage the structure of the club before they finally leave.
