I agree to an extent that summer football is not the answer. I would play in a summer league however, and I would actually have no problem playing football all year round. So my question is why could they not run both? They could then see which one the various teams gravitate towards. Indeed maybe some clubs could have teams in both.

The main problems are definately the pitches or the facilities in general. They wish to switch to a summer league because too many weekends are washouts. Well if all teams had pitches with proper drainage that could handle a bit of water then this wouldn't be such an issue. Also some of the pitches are so bad, wet or dry you can't play football on them.

The Clare League should set a minimum standard that all clubs should meet with their pitch. Perhaps any club that's not up to scratch could be given 3 or 5 years or something to sort it out. If they fail they risk expulsion. Another idea perhaps could be that any team that has a certain amount of home games called off is warned or docked points or something.

If the standard of pitches are improved then perhaps facilities and hospitality could be next. Down at Olympic I feel ashamed that teams tog in half a tin box. Even this is an improvement from previous years as at least the away side has a place to change.

What I feel most ashamed about is that we don't look after the away club. While only a token gesture soup and sandwiches after the game is much appreciated and credit is due to the clubs that still offer them. This should be a requirement.

Oh and all this talk about Newtown's great facilities, it's pitches were under several inches of water for quite a few weeks. Hardly aspirational stuff

Very passionate stuff, but here is a simple question, have you spoken to your club and is there anything that you as a player could do to help the situation, alot of what you say makes sense, but if only one or two people are running the club then how can you expect them to change the situation, the whole club, members, players and comittees have to work together, until this happens your club will only change in the "tin box" to put in the facilities it takes money, time and a little patience and don't forget the people who give there time and effort normally for very little thanks are doing this vonluntarily. Players have to be more proactive in getting involved to resolve a lot of these issues, but it can be done!!!

Well I am/was on the committee but have become quite disillusioned. I'll say no more.

But I do agree with you. More people at the club should be involved. However if these people don't know how to or are unwilling to change the situation then it doesn't matter how big a group of willing helpers you gather. This is one area I thiml the Clare League falls down in (as far as I know). From what I've seen it doesn't offer clubs enough support or guidance.

Some teams are run well while others are not. Some are well financed while others are struggling day to day. It would be good if the CL could pass on advice on how to run your club better, how to approach sponsors, and good fund raising ideas etc. The Clare League is a community, it would be nice if we all worked together like one. I don't know about the rest of you but I'd rather compete in a strong league than dominate a weak one.

In order for clubs to be able to make improvements to their grounds, they need to own their own grounds, or, at the very least, have a long term lease. We were very lucky for years to be located at the same pitch, which while not being the best in the county, was a long way from being the worst. Over the years, a lot of work was carried out including building dressing rooms, (basic but effective), boundary walls and drainage work. Games were only ever called off if a full programme was postponed. However, at the end of last season, through no fault of the landowner I have to stress, we were forced to move out and search for a new pitch. What we have now, is a decent pitch by Clare league standards, but no long term agreement. There is absolutely no incentive to put any work into the grounds, as at any time, we may find ourselves having to move on. I also know that Tulla Utd. who are currently playing on one of the worst pitches in the league, have done great fundraising over the years with a view to purchasing and developing their own grounds, but now, with money in the bank, can't find a suitable venue that is available to buy. In urban areas, there is an onus on local authorities to provide land for recreational activities such as soccer but that isn't the case in rural areas. While most pitches in Limerick are of a higher standard, once you go out of the city and larger towns, from my experience, many of the pitches are just like our own. (not all of them I admit, but you will notice that the decent ones usually have a lot of money behind them .... Ballingarry etc.).

Will there now be a rush of people putting themselves forward for comittees or is it a case I can't be bothered let someonelse deal with it!

I think it we'll be a closely fought match with olympic expected to have players back that were missing for their first round win against kilkee and bunratty may be missing players which will go against them. I'd say it will go down to peno's. Hopefully olympic can do it and carry on their good season.

If the Rats B can get out a decent team the Specials B won't have a chance !!! Granted ye're good much better than previous years but the Rats B should have too much for ye if they can get their best team out on the day !!!

I don't think Bunratty B need to wory about us. They hockeyed us in a preseason friendly and should probably do the same again. Plus with the home draw and being 2 divisions above us there's really no contest.

That said all the pressure will be on them and if they struggle to get players then they may not have it all their own way.

I would give us a 20% chance of causing an upset.

In the interest of sportsmanship........this was a joke, merely trying to wind up leftie..........there is no evidence bunratty b players collect fancy paper..........but they might do!!! Whos to know???????

So you played them last year which makes you either Cratloe or Connelly, not setting the Premier alight with attacking and passionate football are you!!!!!
Well I thought I was supposed to be the bad guy, I had a similar opinion as yourself but having watched Olympic once this season and been told on this site about the improvements made this year you have to say fairplay to Olympic for trying to get to the Premier, I would probably say your Club is not so special if you believe the Premier is that much better, yes there are 3 to 4 teams that are better than the rest, but the other six sides are fighting to stay in league each year and have a couple of good cup runs. Also do not forget that in the Cup this year that Tulla have disposed of Bunratty and Rock have knocked out Cratloe on pens also. The 3rd Round Draw should be interesting and could see the top sides in Div 1 play Premier sides.
Obviously by your spelling and language that you did not attend school at any age and maybe night classes or a lesson in how to use spell check may actually help you.

Bit out of order considering the excellent support you got from the Shannon based teams on the FAI site. Maybe you think that you are a better class of person than the rest of us. Could you be a Tan!!!
