They haven't really been tested at the back this year(from the games i've seen)!!
the game went ahead in digifone. the result was 3-1. tage went ahead after 5 min. dully poked it home. avenue had the strong breeze and had tage on the back foot. monie leveled and on the stroke of half time eamon o'reilly blasted home from a corner. second half avenue got a penalty 20 mins in (harsh but made up for the blatant one in the first half) pa wilson 3-1. avenue hit the post, crossbar, headed and shot at keeper from 6 yards out. it could have been 7 and tage came into this game shouting that there was nothing between the teams and it will boil down to heart and who wants it more on the day. well they went home with there tails between there legs. for a team and supporters who always seem to have plenty to say they were pretty quiet. as for winning the fai avenue will not be afraid of any team especially with the squad they have. it is every bit as good as 1997 team that got to semi.
The above is all opinion and based on personal experience. Unless stated otherwise it is not a dig at anybody, well probably none of you lot.

i take it you are involved with avenue then ,,, don't get two carried away after all hermiatge are a 1st division team ... will be a lot harder teams to play along the way to try & better team of 1997 & i doubt if current avenue panel would have the same class & ability of that great avenue 1997 team...

fully expected avenue to beat 'tage and i'm sure the score line doesn't flatter them. i think that they have a great chance of getting to at least last 32 of FAI. they have an excellent squad and have replacements for every position. just wondering about next weeks ennis derby(which i'm sure won't be as 1 sided) how come the game against corofin wasn't played?? thought that was supposed to be ave's 2nd round match??

it was played sunday before last in lees road. avenue won 2-0 but made very hard work of it. the second come with 2 mins to go. when a team gets that far anything can happen. home advantage a lucky break etc.
lifford avenue games have always been tight and i dont expext it to be any different next week, but i still be hoping avenue will win. unlike the tage we will do our talking on the pitch

we always knew avenue A are better than tage but lets just say they didn't. there claim to fame is beating avenue b team. having to endure there **** for so long nice to put them back into there box.
as for 1997 believe me when i tell you there not a million miles apart, i have close connections to both. yes they will play much better teams along the way and might get beaten in the next round but who knows. all i know is at present avenue will not fear any team and will give it a good honest shot.

A great result for Newtown yesterday after St Brendans in Ennis against Lifford in the previous round.Surprise choice of 40 year old Brendan Mackel at sweeper after Damien Alford and Mickey McCoy cried off.Things didnt look good after 15 minutes when Noel Donnellan was caught out of position and Mackel took the legs from the attacking Kerryman which Pat Gleeson, excellent throughout, corrrectly punished by awarding a penalty which was expertly converted. The home defence continued to look shaky against a speedy visiting frontline but despite the possesion Trevor O'Donnell was never threatened in the home goal as the Shannon side began to gain midfield possesion through the hardworking Gearoid Magee and the astute distribution of Jason Stretton.Up front Declan Cheeky McDonald always threatened and had a hairline decision overturn his great strike, while his striking partner Paul Butler was always a thorn in the Kerry defence. After a great cross from right winger Robert Wall was pushed on by Butler left winger Ryan Kelly lifted a smart chip over the head of the statuesque Kerry keeper to level matters brilliantly on 38minutes.
The second half continued in the same vein with Newtown appearing to want to win more in the atrocious conditions which eventually led to them taking the lead in the 65th minute with Kelly converting again from close in after a quick break from defense.Noel Donnellan now dominated competely after his shakey start and supported his midfield strongly in which Stretton and Wall had been replaced by Ray Quigley and Pa Devanney to keep the pressure on for a third goal which was always needed against the threatining visitors. That security arrived ten minutes from full time when the impressive Butler shot home after poor defensive work to put the game beyond St Brendans and Newtown into the next round.

thanks, the team added a bit of backbone last year when they won 8 r 9 of there last 10 league matches to win the league. there is still one or two ingredients to add, but i think they will win more matches then they lose. hey shels you should send that masterpiece into clare champion. they could do with some decent articles.
great result for newtown, brendans r supposed to be in top 2 r 3 in kerry. newtown also have had decent runs in fai so who knows. cratloe also had good win. any report on this.

Thanks for the compliment Clifford Ive sent it to all the papers but lets see if its printed.I have to admit the result was not expected 2 weeks after getting thrashed at home 3 nil to Mountshannon.I spoke to the team afterwards and the old lads were all complimenting the young lads saying it was they who pulled it out of the hat.Butler,Wall,Kelly and Cheeky were exceptional ,as were Devanney and Quigley when they came on and not far behind was the great engine of Gearoid Magee on a really bad pitch which suited neither team but which newtown adapted better to.Nice to see James Mcdade back to his old form ,after his injuries in Thailand, for the last 2o minutes. However it takes more than this to win an FAI and they would be better off improving their league form and taking a chance on the Munster Cup which is eminently winnable.

    Fair play to Moher Celtic...

Just want to say fair play to Moher Celtic, they really put it up to Tralee Dynamos the w/end!. The final score of 4-2 didn't do them justice. I think the Clare league in general is on a huge improvement curve, and the regional results in the FAI Junior Cup are proof of that!

Dynamos will need to dramatically improve if they are to progress any further in the competition!!

certainly the results at the weekend would suggest the improvement you mention is there, but if you talk to people in the league it is almost like the trophies are won by default rather than by any great improvement in the standard of teams.

Don't get ahead of yourself..There is the small matter of getting past a lot of strong Limerick teams as well as the usual one or two teams from Tipp.
