fair enough. I just don't understand how anyone could favour a country over their club. doesn't make sense to me

'Well just remember.....If it wasn't for Ireland......None of our clubs would exist!'

Eh, is that a serious statement you're making? Surely not

Just reading through this thread and nobody acknowledged an interesting point.

If you asked the same question on any English clubs forum I'd guarantee you that a very very high majority would choose club over country. I would guess it would be the same for Spain, Italy, etc.

Davros said "Ireland" not Irish football, since it was founded by Irishman (as was hibernan) his statement is true with regard to these two clubs at the very least.

well said, the anti-celtic feeling on this board really pis*es me off. celtic have irish roots so lets jst live with it and stop slating them!!! they played a big role in the social lives and survival of many irish people during the years when they were set up , for that we should be happy!

    What are ye on about??

This thread is about club V country - not history on who set up what club (btw historically arent everton the historical 'irish' club in liverpool - correct me if im wrong).

As said above Celtic have nothing whatsoever to do with Irish football - has irish historical roots, but nothing whatsoever to do with irish football today!!

Ireland is probably one of the very few countries in europe where this debate is of great significance - for the most part in europe (and i would guess in other continents that are as passionate about football as the english, italian, etc) - football supporters will support their clubs well before their country.

slightly off topic there pal. club or country?

most football fans the world over would choose club first. thats just the way it is.

That doesnt means you cant support the national team too, just that your priority is with your club team

spot on. thats exactly the point I was making- that people who support their club day in and day out, will favour the club over their country.

    Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!

Okay, what are you saying that the rest of us support our clubs Monday to Wednesday and support the national team for the rest of the week?

For one last time people on this site are as passonate about their club as you are but still would support the national team first.
Where am I now? I'm over here,
I've got those empty pockets and I can't afford a beer.

i would suggest then that your club is not very important to you if a team that plays 8 times a year is of more significance to you

on the other side of the coin, i would suggest that international football has more of a buzz to it as it is only 8 times a year and not 50times as clubs do play. that can get monotmous (s.p.) lol
