World cup 2006...And you thought the logo was trippy

Here's the new ''mascots'' for 2006...Its a terrible shame Ireland will win a World Cup with such bad mascots....Certainly must have a different sense of humour over there...

Anglophile in winning German design shock?

The Lion, The Rose, The white shirt.... Are the Fatherland having an identity crisis?

(is it too much to hope that the little ones called Alan?)
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

    And they nearly did.

A little dole queue with scraggy haired, bearded ex-mascots?
Do you think the new German one is a previous mascot in disguise?
World Cup Willie from 1966 perhaps?

totally agree, although it might be because Italia '90 was when I first really became aware of football! I was 8 at the time, and I remember being told that Ireland were in the World Cup Finals against England. Throughout the entire match, I thought it was the World Cup Final - I think I only realised that it wasn't when the next match came along (Egypt??)

The German Lion is a bit lame, really - could they not have come up with something better, like a giant mug of beer?

many of you collect the world cup 90 album?

havnt seen one as comprehensive as that bad boy since!! must have spent a fortune on that!! (the old man maybe!)

managed to get most of it - have to hang on to it for a few years - might be worth something someday!

The old World Cup 90 binder was the businness and a bit of a money racket. Used to buy the suppliment every week and add them in and then buy the stickers. I still have it at home - might be worth something in years to come. The only team that I managed to get every sticker for was Ireland.

I actually got it as a Christmas present in 1989 - thats 15 years ago. Man I'm getting old.

i was only 8 at the time - remember it was great craic swapping stickers

always the little rich kid in school had a massive hand-load of spares, us clever ones short a bit of pocket money always managed to swindle or nick the odd one!

didnt think theyd miss a gerry payton sticker or two!!

There was also a picture of Chris Hughton running after Ruud Gullit on the cover.

That lion looks Australian with his surfer-dude hair. There's no way he'll pass as a German, he looks too exciting and emotional.....

Still have two at home, Myself and my brother filled them, except for the odd rare one.. Nothing better than getting a shiney one in the pack, you'd get 3 normal ones in a swopsy for a shiney!
