The reduced investment in the team last year was because last November they started to realise the markets field was most likely not going to be ready for the start of the season so they scaled it back. Then in January they scaled it back again as they heard there would be a longer delay again. Then they had to organise Jackman Park for the start of the season which from what I heard was not cheap so again there was another scaling back of the budget. That was three times they had to adjust the budget. To allow for most likely smaller crowds and the extra costs of Jackman Park and getting it some way up to scratch.
Would that have been any different if it was sponsors money rather than Pats money? Who knows. With the Markets Field continually falling through the club were actually finding it hard to get more sponsorship in.
Basically the way I look at it is whether money is coming from sponsors, from one man, or a collective of businessmen, clubs in the LOI are still on a knifes edge and anyone could potentially fold or have to scale back to a complete amateur set up at any stage.
