Ignore that question I'VE SINCE FOUND OUT IT WAS Merry Christmas by Shakin' Stevens
This is a really well known song, I first thought it was Paul 'thumbs up' Mccartney, but I don't know now. Its a Christmas song with a part that goes slow and mellow like this (give me a cjance I can't sing it) D--D-D--D-DDD![]()
Ignore that question I'VE SINCE FOUND OUT IT WAS Merry Christmas by Shakin' Stevens
College, in 1979 I was wee nipper making a racket in his play pen so the 70's was all rather vague to me. I'm an 80's kid and love listening to Sun 80's over the satellite. www.sun80s.com There a crowd in Dublin and I believe you can pick it up on the FM band in the Dublin, well when I was last working in Dublin (Jan - Aug '03) when I used to come home in the evening I'd just flick it on. Not sure what exact frequency its on but I'm sure if you fiddle with the dial on your wireless set, you should stumble accross it.Originally Posted by CollegeTillIDie
Jon & Vangelis, I barely remember them but I did have a vinyl from them, belonged to a friend. I have the Greatest Hits CD and its absolutley class. If you like I can record it onto a tape and send it on yourself or Conor.
Anyway for me The Blades 'Ghost of a Chance' single surpasses anything Bono and his U2 crowd have ever produced
'I hear you now' came from the Short Stories album circa 1980 and the synthezised keyboard wizardry from Vangelis is just amazing..
I HEAR YOU NOW 1980
After the first embrace from you my senses knew
The look of love was in your eyes
and after we first make love our senses tingle to
The touch oh how we hypnotize
Oh, to get the feeling on and on
Oh, just to get the feeling
Holding you closer in my arms we drift to heaven
Bringing in the morning light
And after all is said and done there's only us
We can make it right So, our love will carry on and on
Now our love will be free, be free.
And when we play, love don't delay, I hear you now
For what was then, is what is now, anyhow
As I became a guest of love's tune here again
We'll carry on together like today.
After the first embrace from you I want you too
After the first embrace from you I want you too
The Night Santa went Crazy
Down in the workshop all the elves were makin' toys
For the good Gentile girls and the good Gentile boys
When the boss busted in, nearly scared 'em half to death
Had a rifle in his hands and cheap whiskey on his breath
From his beard to his boots he was covered with ammo
Like a big fat drunk disgruntled Yuletide Rambo
And he smiled as he said with a twinkle in his eye,
"Merry Christmas to all - now you're all gonna die!"
The night Santa went crazy
The night St. Nick went insane
Realized he'd been gettin' a raw deal
Something finally must have snapped in his brain
Well, the workshop is gone now, he decided to bomb it
Everywhere you'll find pieces of Cupid and Comet
And he tied up his helpers and he held the elves hostage
And he ground up poor Rudolph into reindeer sausage
He got Dancer and Prancer with an old German Luger
And he slashed up Dasher just like Freddy Krueger
And he picked up a flamethrower and he barbequed Blitzen
And he took a big bite and said, "It tastes just like chicken!"
The night Santa went crazy
The night Kris Kringle went nuts
Now you can't hardly walk around the North Pole
Without steppin' in reindeer guts
There's the National Guard and the F.B.I.
There's a van from the Eyewitness News
And helicopters circlin' 'round in the sky
And the bullets are flyin', the body count's risin'
And everyone's dyin' to know, oh Santa, why?
My my my my my my
You used to be such a jolly guy
Yes, Virginia, now Santa's doin' time
In a federal prison for his infamous crime
Hey, little friend, now don't you cry no more tears
He'll be out with good behavior in 700 more years
But now Vixen's in therapy and Donner's still nervous
And the elves all got jobs working for the postal service
And they say Mrs. Clause, she's on the phone every night
With her lawyer negotiating the movie rights
They're talkin' bout - the night Santa went crazy
The night St. Nicholas flipped
Broke his back for some milk and cookies
Sounds to me like he was tired of gettin' gypped
Wo, the night Santa went crazy
The night St. Nick went insane
Realized he's gettin' a raw deal
Something finally must have snapped in his brain
Wo, something finally must have snapped in his brain
Tell ya, something finally must have snapped... in his brain

That 's the song alright. Thanks for the offer, much appreciated . One of my friends has I-tunes on his Apple and downloads stuff and burns it on to CD's for me as it stands. And I listen on my Laptop which is in the PC format.
This technology stuff is great once you can address the compatibality difficulties.I occasionally listen to SUN FM on the radio in the car. Will start listening to them online thanks for the URL.
When I am in Waterford, which I am often, I like Roddy Cleere's shows on WLR on Sunday evenings. I must start tuning him in online too now that I think about it.
"Ghost of a Chance" was class song right enough. Blades were the most unfortunate band ever. They were signed up by EG management Roxy Music's management company and released a few records on their label. They never had the level of success which their talent merited. Mainman Paul Cleary wrote the Irish Ethiopia Famine record " Show Some Concern" which was released in the spring of 1985, which illustrates how big a deal they were in Ireland. He later formed a band called The Partisans. He also released a great solo single called " Some People Smile".

They were the best Irish band EVER!Originally Posted by CollegeTillIDie
I'd put them above Lizzy, and while I'm a great fan of U2, Bono & Co aren't a patch on the Blades.
The Last Man in Europe is a superb album, and Cleary must be in the top three, at least, of Irish songwriters.
Pick one! Mine would probably be Fairytale of New York.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

For obvious reasons I like 'em all - except anything Christmassy by Cliff Richard, Daniel O'Donnell and such like...........I draw the line there.
Love the choirs singing christmas hymns.........have loads of Cds of that kind of stuff. Makes me all warm towards the world, if youse (SM) follow.

Fairytale of New York.
I always wondered what i'd think of that song if i wasn't irish.
Also like Last Christmas by Wham or the Manics cover of it.
I'm gonna by that single for Share of the old Bon Jovi song for Christmas.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.
O'Bama - "Eerah yeah, I'd say we can alright!"
G.O'Mahoney Trapattoni'll sort ém out!!
Driving home from Christmas - Chris Rea
Easily the best

Know what's a lovely one - Gaudete by Steeleye Span. Was a number 2 in1973 I think. It's a traditional English folk song and just vocals and harmony - no instruments.
Nightwish also do a nice version of "Walking in the air" - sort of Opera Metal version but pretty straight version of the original.
Fairytale of New York is great too - anyone see Mairead Brennan (Clannad) and that Dempsey bloke murdering the fcuk out of it on the Late Late last Friday night???![]()
Slade's song and Wizzard's one are nice too.

Here's some of mine.
The Power of Love - Frankie goes to Hollywood
Feed the World - Band Aid
I'll find my way Home - Jon & Vangelis
Fairytale of New York - Pogues
but my fav has to be Mull of Kintyre by Wings.
