    Youth/Academy Teams

Are there any plans for Dublin City FC to set up youth/schoolboy teams or academies. Is this something that is required by UEFA as part of the Licence programme. Just wondering if they would have to severe all links with Home Farm and start afresh. Apolgies if this has been discussed before, new to the Dublin City FC scene!

Yes, it is required by UEFA licensing, and yes there are plans in the offing. Nothing concrete yet. I believe DC were close to agreeing deals with Home Farm and Ballymun United, but nothing came of either in the end (politics involved, apparently )

All formal links with Home Farm have been severed, quite some time ago too. Which is a shame, in my opinion.

Welcome to the fold, hope you're gonna stick around for next season! If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Politics in Football, you must be joking right!! ha ha!

I think it's a shame the link with Home Farm is gone. Coach up there myself with the kids and keep myself to myself generally, but am all too aware of politics and the likes - suppose it's the same at other clubs.

I think it's important for a club like Dublin City to have that a youth system in place as apart from the footballing benefits, it would also give the club a presence in the community in Dublin (which at present doesn't exist) with children playing for the club and parent being involved. It could be useful for increasing the fan base as well as future player base!

Thanks for the info, look forward to getting down to some games next season.

    Thanks

Spot on, that's precisely why the club are so keen to get this implemented. Definitely more to do with pulling in support than developing young talent, at the moment anyway.

    Wink

Looks like we finally have a youth section, Just read on the DC website.
St Pauls Artane FC are the lucky club to land the honours.
Good for both sides I think, altough I am kicking the ball on both ends of the pitch on this one.

Karlos, I think the DC youth pipeline would be interested in your coaching ability, give them a call, it might be nice to say that you are involved in the best club in the land.

Always willing to help out with anyone when it comes to youth development football. If anyone has any contacts, I'd be more than happy to offer myself up to help out in any way I can.

Great news, should remove another stumbling block on the road to a successful licensing application.

Can you fill us in on any further details, Derek? Will your charges be kitted out in DCFC colours next season?

Remember how we first discussed this on the journey down to Longford to see DC get relegated? A new beginning springs from every ending, eh.
