Far from a fantastic display particularly first half when our midfield kept sitting off and were eventually punished. Great start to the start of the second half and that wrapped the game up for us but even if we get bray at home in the semis we need to up our game 10 fold
To be fair Sligo competed in the first half, but thought we were excellent in the second half though, Shields was superb all night.
Dreadful night to even think about going out, but as always it's so much better watching football live.

It's always a good evening when I can watch Dundalk via satellite, this evening they were superb considering the conditions.
They are shaping up to be a 3 in a row team .... at least.
Killer's goal last night for those who missed it -
So it looks like -
Rovers - Miss (bit harsh maybe - never broke through the first team I think)
Kildare - Hit
UCD - Hit
Rovers - Miss
Cork - Hit
Pat's - Miss
Dundalk - Hit?
Strange career alright. Not sure what happened at Rovers/Pat's
Terrific performance from the town. We had Sligo chasing shadows in the 2nd half. Into the next round, semi final don't care who we get but a home draw.
What happened in Derry with some cork fans being denied access
Long Live King Kenny
Watched the 2nd half of the Dundalk v Sligo game. The winning of the match for me was the relentless Dundalk pressing game. They seem a very fit team. Sligo could not control the football and kept coughing up possession which Dundalk capitalised on.
I don't think the pitch or the weather helped Sligo in their attempts to control the football. They couldn't get to grips with the pace of the ball on the deck and seemed unsure underfoot. A dry night on a grass pitch may have suited them better but it was quality pressing by Dundalk.
Think I might've taken a replay the other night and good we now have a home tie to attempt to make the semi finals. Anyone know when the draw is taking place?
Sligo would hammer seven shades of sh1te out of harps, I don't think you realise the step up in tempo between the 2 divisions at all, well that would come of course after harps lads had kicked 8 shades of sh1te out of the Sligo players first. Then again mad Mick V Ollie could be great to watch.
The conditions and surface was the same for both. However a huge contribution on the winning of the game was the performance of Chris Shields, possibly his best in a Dundalk shirt and only recently matched when we played away to Cork in April. His work rate cutting out all attacks, feeding the MF and attack was quality all night.
He has to be the most improved player in the country, yet he is still not guaranteed a start. The choice is between him and O'Donnell (who was suspended the other night) it's always nice to have options, as O'Donnell offers a more attacking role but I can't think of anyone who has pushed on more or is better in the role that Shields plays in the league.

Apparently the lads in question aren't banned from the Cross.
Noticed our stewards at the gates had sheets of papers with photos on them. Thought it was unusual.
Not sure what the craic is with the fellas, but Cork obviously knew they were travelling to Derry just to get turned away. Poor form.
