    heffo

According to one of the papers-Heffernan has been in talks about joining UCD.

I think Rovers should make a greater effort to hold on to decent players. Otherwise what's the point.

He should do everything to try to hold on to him, but if he wants to go to the premier league what can we do?

If he does come to Belfield you will probably get him back at the end of his course unless he does brilliantly and goes either to another Premier club or abroad.

A player of the calibre of Heffo doesn't come along too often so it's up to the club management to show some ambition and hold on to the player at whatever cost. Yes the club did speak with Heffo but he had made his mind up long before the end of the season that he wasn't going to hang around the Showgrounds, lets face it the lad has some ambition himself if he didn't he would have stayed with his home club Limerick. Its only the showground faithful that think Rovers are a big club in the modern game, realistically it's been quite a while since we were recognised as so outside of our own region. We don't protray any ambition so people don't show any respect and for that we get the likes of Gorman and Carr and these are all we are capable of holding on to, Players that know they are past it and no one else will have them. Somethink else that might amaze ye is this: Darren Jack has been seen round the showgrounds only as late as last week and the talk now is that he could be with us again for the coming season. So don't go holding your breath thinking that the coming season could be the one we have waited for. The only glimmer of light shinning out from all this comes from the words of the FAI CEO John Delaney saying that the teams that don't reach the criteria outlined in the UEFA licencing will not be allowed to particapate in the premier division, which asks the question where do we as a club stand in all this. I was told before that "we are not too far away" whatever that means?

Premier Division newcomers UCD are believed to be preparing a contract offer for Sligo Rovers midfielder Colin Heffernan, who looks set to be one his way out of the Showgrounds club after just one season in the north-west.

Heffernan joined Sligo from Limerick FC 12 months ago and enjoyed a good season on the wing for the Bit O’Red.
