FWIW i was at the last game in 91 - Packie's testimonial. Didn't meet any other Irish fans ont he way over or back on the boat or near the game or indeed any Irish Celtic fans although I assume some must have travelled from Donegal.

no away end open either although no need as we were obviously made very welcome.

Celtic finished a distant 3rd that season and won nothing. They got a decent crowd though - 40,000+ if I remember correctly.

Have also given up on testimonials although went to Quinners as that was different. The money being earned by players these days is huge and good luck to them but throwing in a testimonial is a joke.

I assume we will play as a Republic of Ireland XI and not award caps. did that for Tony Gale too at West Ham and Matt Busby at Man utd.

I assume the F.A.I. are pocketing a fee for this. These testimonials can be lucrative for the away team.

I think they demean national teams. Northern Ireland played Macclesfield a few years back

I'm obviously not a fan of the Celtic love in either and with the adverse publicity due to the sectarian booing this game will hardly help.

Glad to see they found a team on their level
Where am I now? I'm over here,

i'll be in Ireland at this time, so I'll be hoping to attend.

when the time comes I am sure Jackie will donate the money to some worthwhile cause - his father is renowned for his charity work (a member of the Communist Party to boot), not only on behalf of Celtic FC, but ask Hibs fans about Jackie Snr and you'll get nothing but positive responses.

To be fair Arbroath are in a different league to ICT - so unless drawn together in a cup tie this would not occur.

    Don't mention it.

I thought it was quite obvious. It is the one thing anti-Celtic people hate. Its actually the one thing that makes Irish people become anti-Celtic (ie. they think Irish people support Celtic because they're Irish).

Maybe after yesterdays events involving Hearts , Celtic wont be interested in playing this fixture. They are going to need a break after all!

Could the FAI also agreed to this match to see if Parkhead is a viable alternative to Lansdowne when the rennovations commence and if Croke Park isn't available to them? It could make for a interesting weekend if "Watford" are in the Final....and if all goes well, then who knows?

Having said all of this, it takes an organisation with a clear long term vision and the FAI certainly don't possess that!
