Question Re RTE and the EL...

I need to find out how many EL matches RTE covered this year. Am doing a paper on the growing gobalisation/commercialisation of sport and wish to put the amount of time given to the EL by our national broadcaster in perspective with the Premiership, SPL etc

    Thanks in advance.

Would you count European games? Off the top of my head, Bohs V Cork, Shels V Bohs, Drogheda V Shels, Pats V Shels and the European games which were Shels V Split, Shels V Depor x2 and Shels V Lille x2. They also showed the two semis (But not the replay) and the final in the FAI cup. TV3 had one more (Cork V Shels) and Setanta had one shown 'as live' (Pats V Rovers) if you're interested in the other channels.

Are you sure they didn't show the replay? I thought I remembered watching it, though obviously I could be mixing it up with the first game.

You may have seen the highlights but I'm 99% sure they didn't show the replay. They missed a seemingly great game and definitely a great goal anyway.

The shower most certainly did not show the replay. Probably the best match I was at all season and it was fantastic winner by Sean Dillon. A memorable night all round.

You probably need to trawl back through RTEngland Guides to find out for sure, or there might be an equivalent online.
Sounds fascinating. Will you be able to post it here or somewhere else online when you've got it done? It might even generate a bit of publicity.
Incidentally, may be a bit off-topic but the Observer sports over the last few weeks have been running a number of articles about how English supporters are getting fed up with arrogant Prem. teams and are turning to 'proper', i.e. non-Sky Sports, non-globalised, footie in the Championship etc.

I can't be helpful and answer but mebbe the Longford fan that loves Georgie Hamilton could tap 'im up to find out.

After all..."It's Friday night, it's Eircom League night!" - according to George! *miffed*
I'd rather die laughing than trying!

Thanks for the info lads. Tried to post the piece but it was WAY to long (can only post 1,000 characters at a time) Spent 10 minutes trying to cut it down but it wasn't enough, if I cut anymore it just wouldn't make any sense.
    Thanks again though.

    Maynard,

I've started keeping a spreadsheet of all televised games involving Eircom clubs, along with their reported attendances. Only started around the time of Shels v Hadjuk, but may be helpful in telling you how many watched each game, what position it was in the ratings that week, and what they were up against.

Let me know if you want a copy.
