Farrell heads north

Dublin City striker Robbie Farrell has joined Irish League side Newry City, and the County Down outfit could announce the signings of one or two more eircom League players over the coming days.
Farrell is one of Dublin’s longest-serving players, having been with the club virtually since its formation out of the ashes of Home Farm four years ago.
The former Longford Town man has twice been the Vikings’ top scorer, and, having played second fiddle to Philip Hughes and Gary O’Neill for much of the 2004 season, finished as first-choice under Dermot Keely.
However, the 26-year-old has decided to head north, where he will link up with Roy McCreadie’s Newry.
Dublin still have a decent array of forward talent, having signed Trevor Vaughan from Dundalk, Philip Gorman from Kilkenny City and Robbie Collins from Monaghan United since the end of the eircom League season three weeks ago.
Newry boss McCreadie is said to be running the rule over two players from Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne as he bids to add to his squad in the January transfer window.
