O'Shea suprisingly left out in favour of Kaboul and Coates. Won't be long before Advocaat realises that both those players are accidents waiting to happen

No Grego-Cox, Manning, B. Lenihan, D. Lenihan or O'Sullivan in match day squads this afternoon.

Still hard for young Irish players to get a look in in the top 2 divisions.

Four Irish players have scored on their debut so far today; they are Conor Wilkinson, Graham Carey, Barry Corr and Padraig Amond.

Four Irish players have scored in the same minute (49). A record, perhaps? They are Damien Delaney, Jay O'Shea, John-Joe O'Toole and Graham Carey.

James Collins has scored for Shrewsbury.

Barry Corr on course for a debut hat-trick for Cambridge.

John Egan scores Gillingham's third against Sheffield United. Egan and (Jay) O'Shea are two players that could still make moves before the end of the window.

Graham Cummins now has 2 goals from 2 games for St. Johnstone without even making a start, after his last minute equalizer this afternoon. Doesn't say a lot about the standard of the SPL.

    Took about 10 minutes.

Usual story. Start of the season and managers are still excited with their shiny new signings. Once they realise most of them are rubbish, the younger players will start to get a look in.

Clark is on the Guardian's team of the week and Delaney made Goal's. I guess solid defending doesn't rake in the points.

Another player eligible for us last night made his debut for Stevenage. Letterkenny lad Dale Gorman came off the bench for Stevenage in their League Cup game at Portman Road against Ipswich Town.

He's from Letterkenny, just turned 19 at the end of June, son of former Harps, Coleraine and Linfield midfielder Anthony Gorman, but plays currently for Northern Ireland at under-19 level.

good to see rea play full game for brighton. Donal mcdermott scored for rochdale and also started on saturday which is an amazing turn around from where he was at dundalk and aferwards. Lenihan and o sullivan played for blackburn but they went out. Garmston played for gillingham.

I have a nagging memory of DI posting something about this lad but don't know where.

I've had a root on the web about his father and it appears that his father was playing in the North when Dale would have been born: http://www.footballdatabase.eu/footb....75201.en.html From 93-04 he was playing in the North having been in the LOI previous to that.

That link states that his father's club was Waterford so, if this is correct, is his aul man a Waterford man? In this case, he could have married a Northern Irish woman and/or Dale was born there, hence Dale plays for NI even though he resides (when he's not at Stevenage anyway) in Donegal.

Not sure where the Waterford link comes in, apparently started his career there, however strange that is because he is born and bred Letterkenny. His brother Gareth also played League of Ireland with Sligo and Galway.

Dale may well have been born in Portadown while Anthony was up playing there, but he was reared in Letterkenny, his father and grandfather both well known in Letterkenny too. Had always thought Anthony kept base in Letterkenny while playing up the North. My suspicion is that Dales mother is from across the border and he qualifies via that.

His father Anthony Gorman played for the Republic of Ireland Youth team for a couple of years and played most of his football in the Irish League.

Dale Gorman was born in Derry but has lived in Letterkenny all his life. He has played for Donegal Schoolboys at the Kennedy Cup, Galway Cup & Foyle cup at different age groups.

I wish him the best. At the end of he day its a great opportunity/experience for the young lad. I see on the IFA website that he played in the 2 games for the Northern Irish under 16's in Finland last week.

It appears that the Republic coaches thought he was abit on the small side. I would certainly have question marks over the emerging talent programmes. Are we just looking to bring through 6 foot plus lads. Strange.

Someone else posted that he went to school in Letterkenny. So, it appears he qualifies through birth in Derry and the possibility of an NI mother.

I would imagine he'd be good enough for our underage set-up with, for instance, Jack Connors of Dagenham & Redbridge a regular in our under 21 squads for a while.

Glen Rea has gone on loan to Southend until January. Played 2 games at CB for Brighton in the League Cup this season.

Quite the Irish contingent at Southend now:
    Bolger Rea
    Keegan Timlin McLaughlin
    Hunt Mooney

Phil Brown must have a soft spot for us. In 2009/2010 (his last season in charge of Hull and second in the PL), he had McShane, S. Hunt, Caleb Folan and Kevin Kilbane all in and around the starting team. Hunt and McShane were regulars and Kilbane got his fair share of games. I could be wrong but I think he signed most of them (EDIT: In fact, he signed all four of them).

On a by note, I was listening to Stephen Hunt co-commentating on Newstalk on Southampton v Norwich. He makes it fun to listen to and provides insights, even if his analysis isn't always incredibly technical. At one point, he was referring to how Russell Martin had been sent off and that clubs tend to fine players and how, because Neil is Scottish as well as Martin, the fine would hurt Martin a lot because "the Scots are fairly tight." He then goes "Did I mention Christophe Berra. Played with him at Wolves. He was injured for the Ireland game. He's very tight, did I mention?" Clearly grinding an axe with an old teammate and spouting a generalisation but it was quite funny at the time, I thought.

Dale Gorman has Just been called up for Northern Ireland u21 team to play Scotland & Iceland. Some good players in that team. Ryan McLoughlin (Liverpool currently on loan to Aberdeen, Liam Donnelly Fulham currently on loan to Crawley Town & boys like Michail Kennedy who scored recently in the league cup for Charlton. Josh Doherty Watford & Michael Duffy ex Derry City Celtic on loan to Alloa Athletic. I see some of them have played for the full Northern Ireland team in friendlies. Young Patrick McNair is still eligible to play at this level but is with the senior squad.

BTW: Dales mother is from Letterkenny. He was just born in Altnagalvin Hospital in Derry but has never lived in the North. He is Donegal through & through. It looks like his fathers Wiki page was deleted.

Searching around for info on the U17 squad, came across this article about Caoimhin Fowler from a few years ago: http://www.cairnspost.com.au/sport/l...-1226784583323
and this about Ryan Nolan of Inter Milan: http://nosoloefese.es/not/14213/el-j...de-milan-rlm-/
