was it not to curry favour with the big man from the FAI?
It was the Rovers Board not Croly that made and implemented the decision to go with the B team- an absolute 100% debacle in the context of the club's finances and a decision that the Board never explained in terms of what the benefits they expected from it and of course from which nothing accrued except the spending of approx €100k with nothing to show for it- one of a series of poor decisions made by them over the last few seasons.

I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Ah you'll admit yourself it was a poor squad he was working with. They got some very good results against much more talented sides, which is generally how you measure a manager's achievements at a club with a smaller budget and standard of player. That doesn't mean the manner in which he left the club and his subsequent failure at Sligo aren't all completely on his own back either. I wouldn't have him at Rovers either and I doubt Bohs would have him back even if they weren't doing well this year, but he did a better job than I think he could be expected to at Bohs.
edit: on a side note, where does the **** pants thing come from?

Manager: Fergal, have you your boots with ya?
Fergal: Ya, I have them here.
Manager: Ah good stuff, well give them to this man so, he forgot his!
I'd say what really pi**es off other LOI fans is the reality that when match promoters are setting up so called glamour friendlies (Real Madrid, Liverpool at Aviva etc.) their default choice for good commercial reasons is to pay Rovers a fee to provide the opposition.
We signed up for one season in the First Div and our involvement had nothing to with anything except the Board having some never convincing vague strategic plan that participation would over time be beneficial to the club - which as I already mentioned made no sense in the context of the state of the club's finances at the end of 2013.And it turned out to be another hugely expensive og by the Board.
What has Alan Keane done? Hes just released a statement on the Sligo website apologising for his actions, but what actions!?
https://kesslereffect.bandcamp.com/album/kepler - New music. It's not that bad.
Pretty sure that's it. He could be apologising for his performances this season but then again he wouldn't be the only one who would need to do that.
The bit I liked was the "unfortunate headlines" reference when nobody had a clue what he was on about.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
This is so unbelievably pathetic on so many levels it is beyond words.
