    Mid season break?

    Interesting PFAI survey

73% of players surveyed wanted mid season (summer) break but unsurprisingly only 46% of semi-pro would take that unpaid.

The problems with a mid season break would be:

    1. Teams playing in europe could be affected depending when the break was scheduled.

    2. Players might just go on holidays in Santa Ponsa for 2 weeks and come back, shall we say, less than fit
    I'm what? I'm ants at a picnic?

Weren't Cork City given an unwanted mid season break this time round, after being made play 3 games in 8 days?

Mid season break wouldnt work. Let them (the eL committee) try and get through a season first without all sorts of ridiculous situations first, then try tinkering.

Maybe two weeks before the euro campaigns begin? I'm sure proffessionals won't go off to Santa Ponsa and places, especially if a suitable punishment is in store for them if they do. I think players would get great use out of this, especially players in the situation of Shels, were they have to play so many euro games a season, even if that might only be a once off.

Because Shels have such a proud european tradition?

When before this season did Shels ever have a prolonged Euripean adventure?

This season was a fluke, it'll not happen again next season.

The league don't even know how many league games we'll be playing next season, I doubt they could organise fixtures around a mid season break.

Gary, before this year we were the first LOI side to win away from home in Europe in something like a decade, and nobody in this league has won more European ties than us (Not counting the inter toto but even if we count that I think that's still true). In fact they've all won less bar one. Some fluke this season was

Mid season break might be ok for semi pro 1st division but totally pointless for supposedly professional Premier division.

European results should be judged on the opposition played, not the competition played in.

Having a mid season break doesn't work.It was tried before during the special olympics. Its hard enough to complete all the games within the time as it is.Waterford United had to play on a Sunday,Tuesday and Friday in the same week towards the end of last season.I understand the players wanting 2 weeks off in the summer for holidays but I have my doubts over this one.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

As regards a mid-season break, sure give it to the First Division, most neutrals won't notice the difference. It's a graveyard.

For the Premier Division, don't even think about it!! If you do, just remember the fixture chaos that happened the last time there was a mid-season or "summer" break. If you continue to think about it, just consider the damage it would do to our league's European Representatives' match preparations. Therefore, don't think about it again.

It's supposed to be called Summer Soccer, not Summer Holidays!!
