Keely confident ahead of First Division tilt

November 30, 2004

Dublin City boss Dermot Keely insists his side will be well-equipped to mix it with the best in the First Division next season, given that the section’s dominant sides were all promoted to the top flight for the 2005 campaign.

Finn Harps, Bray Wanderers and UCD – who were all relegated from the Premier since 2001 – took advantage of the once-off three-pronged promotion to book their places in next season’s 12-team top division.

Dublin, whose very existence had been rumoured to be under threat following their Premier Division demise, signed ten new players last week, and Keely is upbeat about their prospects for next year.

He told the Irish Sun: “I’m not saying we’re going to go straight back up but I’m confident we’ll be at the business end of it. It is going to be very open next year because the clubs who have been at the top end of it in the last few seasons – UCD, Finn Harps and Bray – all went up this season.”
