    Bring back the U-16's Rovers!!!

Where else are Rovers going to get their future up&coming talent from, than coming up through the youth squads.Last years U-16's squad were amazing they won two cups which is more than the seniors can do at the moment. If this squad was brought up to senior level they would be UNSTOPPABLE!!!! 4 of the members of the squad also played for Sligo/Leitrim and travelled to Barcelona to compete in a International cup. One team won the cup and the other team came second. These lads are deadly talented. There were two of this Rover's team playing for Ireland. All this ended because of lack of funds. stupid or what!!!maybe if the seniors went to watch one of the U-16's games they might have learned a thing or two!!!!

    Exclamation

Clarification needed on the demise of the Under 16 Rovers Team:

The 2 cups that were won in 2004 were local/Provincial titles. The Local Situation was simply a Joke, equivilent to putting a fully fledged Rovers Team into the Sligo Leitrim Junior (Adult League) . Provinically, it was in essence a Sligo Mayo Select Team, playing in the main, local community teams. It was in real terms, men against boys. The demise is due to lack of cash to compete in a League of Ireland under 16 structure, where they should have been playing in the first place!!

No sour grapes, just the reality!!

The success of a football club can be judged by the structures that are put into place for the development of underage talent. No Eircom League club can really afford not to have an underage structure in place. You are looking at the stars of tomorrow. Current planning only takes a club so far, a long term development plan will reap the rewards.

    I stand corrected Anto !!
As for youth development structures, if picking all the best local talent from Schoolboys Soccer, and then put them back in to the Local League where they came from is development, then I am Jose Murhino (Or however you spell it!) Sligo Rovers under Don O'R did this , and it caused serious damage locally. After all what 15 year old is going to get out of bed to be hammered on a Saturday Morning!

Sean Connor seems to have a different view, and good luck to him. The point i was making is simply set up a proper structure of progression where young people who are picked up by LOI Clubs play in a higher standard, where they can learn and improve. Beating local teams 20-0 simply has no point!
