And if you laugh at Everton because of their lack of success, you must be positively weeping tears when you meet a Preston fan, or a Rochdale fan. And do you then get all respectful when you meet a fan of, say Real Madrid?

Firstly, nobody is laughing at anybody for supporting Everton. All that's happening here is good natured banter between Liverpool and Everton fans. Banter is part of football. Secondly, far from 'positively weeping tears' at someone who supports a mediocre team, I have a lot of respect for them.

Thirdly, nobody can accuse any Liverpool fan of being a glory hunter as, in case you haven't noticed, success has been thin on the ground over the last 15 years. Supporting them in my lifetime has been shear frustration and a lot more lows than highs. Just because we have now won the European cup we are all 'glory hunters' again. It's just sour grapes from other fans who support success starved teams in the coco-pops championship

Supporting a club is hereditary. It passes down through the family tree. Someone chooses to support a club. They then take their offspring to watch their team, who in turn, take their offspring to watch the same team as the years go on. Often, a fan has no choice but to support x team, as it's passed down through the generations.

the glory hunters thing comes from the fact 1 million liverpool fans turned up to welcome the cup back , but they struggle to fill there ground every week !!! .
also ive met liverpool fans that had given up supporting them would nt even get out of bed to watch the derby on tv , and now they turn up after the cup win preaching about how great they are ..... these are the glory hunters we talk about

Well anto, I don't know of any glory hunters like that. All of my friends and everyone I know who support Liverpool have been doing so for as long as I know them. The homecoming would have brought whole families out to see it (plus a lot of curious Evertonians...."Look, it's the European Cup (gasp!, sigh!)"

) which would have swelled the crowds. Liverpudlians are entitled to feel a part of any success, whether they go to the games or not. In any case, Liverpool have filled the ground most weeks since the fan card and PTS ticket scheme was introduced. I know because I can't get bloody tickets

Same thing happens to all clubs when they win a trophy or do well in a season i reckon

. I for one have seen an increase in people wearing Everton and Chelsea jerseys last season.

If you're referring to the game in Goodison, well no LFC fan was going to break their back to subscribe to ppv to watch a defeat, were they??

Tbh, wtf is going to make the extra effort to get up and watch a game with a kick off at an ungodly hour, i.e. 12.45?? You never see Milan derbies or Real-Barca games kicking off at that time do you?? Because that's lunch-time, not match time.

but it will be hard for everton because they will have to actually win games no free goals , dodgy off side's ,or changing of the rules for us like liverpool get .

Think its only on ITV2, dont think its on irish tv, but utd are on bbc 1 tomorrow and the pool are on sky on wednesday. Rangers are on setanta as far as i know

tv3 have decided to only show liverpools home games so guess who wont be watching tv3 this year .
rte are showing utd .

Meanwhile, the champions play a rough-looking CL QR3 game in Bulgaria. And there's EC history too between the clubs. In 1981, we beat them 6-1 on aggregate on the way to winning the European Cup, however, they won 2-0 in the Sofia snow to win 2-1 on aggregate in the same competition the following year. It certainly won't be snowing there this time, but with the second leg at home, it should ease any difficulties that we may face against them this time.

Yes, all the hype about getting into the Champions League and then they go out after 2 games. Unlucky though to be drawn against the strongest team left in the qualifiers. The Hungarians Man U played were brutal. They had been puffed up by Ray and Johnny G because they had beaten Hadujk Split - didn't Shels do them over last year ?
