    Ryan Manning D Southampton b.1996

QPR Under-21 boss Steve Gallen wouldn't be surprised to see Ryan Manning make his first team debut by the end of the season.

    http://www.kilburntimes.co.uk/sport/...team_1_3988787

Gallen’s Under-21 side drew 3-3 against Charlton Athletic on Monday afternoon, with Irish Under-19 duo Ryan Manning and Grego-Cox scoring the goals.

Gallen believes the duo have a very bright future at the club.

He said: “I think Ryan struggled when he moved over here in January.

“It is a bit of a culture shock to move from the west of Ireland to west London, but in the last few weeks he looks more settled and has the confidence to now show why the club paid a fee for him. He’s only the second Under-21 player after Coll Donaldson that the club have paid a fee for.

“Let’s remember, though, that at 18 Ryan is still a kid trying to make his way in the game, but he’s tough, can run, will compete and has a quality left foot.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ryan and Cole Kpekawa play for the first team before the end of the season. Unfortunately it looks like Michael Petrasso will miss the rest of the campaign through injury though.”

Great to hear. I think one would be foolish to underestimate how much of a bearing Gallen will have on this lad's career. The shoe was on the other foot when Gallen was the little cockney lad returning to Mayo for his summer holidays or joining up with our under-21's. Whilst the difference between the West of Ireland and the West of London probably isn't as big as it was then, Gallen has demonstrated his willingness to ensure QPR provide under-age players for Irish squads and I'm sure he's intent on imposing this willingness on an impressionable teenager. It all depends now on how much talent Manning has and how it's developed. QPR looks like a smart move though. Darnell Furlong (Paul Furlong's son) started at right-back for them yesterday. 19 years of age. There's a willingness to bring through under-21 players now that 'Arry is gone.

I was never under the impression that his uncle Archie was born in Galway?

Great to see, Steve Gallen seems to really have high hopes for him. His time at Galway should hopefully prepare him for men's football better than his U21 team mates.

Did anyone see that coming? Fantastic. I have to say that to me is as big a shock debut for an Irish player I can remember. Any time I looked up qpr s reserves he didn't seem to b getting any great press. He hasn't even been out on loan as far as I can tell. Hopefully he can kick on . Is grego cox still on loan?

He's still at Newport but injured afaik. His loan may finish in January, I'm not sure.

has returned to QPR because of the injury: http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/20...s-3464812.aspx
Reece Grego Cox has returned early from his loan spell at Newport County in order to undergo knee surgery, which is set to see him sidelined for six-to-eight weeks.
That should see him back playing in late February/early March

Didn't realise he started the Ipswich game after the Wolves one. I had to have a look at the fans' reactions to his performance.

    http://www.wearetherangersboys.com/f...Ipswich/page14

There are three comments on Mannings. One states he was found out. Another states he struggles. Another states he needs a strong, defensive mind to be allowed to play in the middle or the wing.

It appears he played on the left of a three in a 4-2-3-1. Hopefully, Holloway persists with him, even if the fans that stated he struggled are right. There were two changes in midfield from the Wolves game which can't have helped him.

    Assist for Manning.

QPR break down the right wing. Mackie is furthest player ahead but you can see Manning busting a gut running through the middle to catch up to the play. Ball is put across to Manning who plays a tidy, first-time pass into Mackie for a simple finish. It was a lovely ball by Manning and it put it on a plate for Mackie.

He appears to be playing in midfield tonight, on the left of a 4-3-3.

Tuned in the last 20 minutes here, Manning has been excellent. For a player I'd have said left the LOI a year or two too early, he's showing great composure on the ball and doesn't look a bit out of place. Could be one to watch over the coming months.

Quality pass. Twitterers asking if he meant it. No way anything with outside of his foot like that can be anything other than a pass to back post. Sublime.

100% intentional that pass was. It wasn't even commented on during the live commentary on Sky Sports. I couldn't believe it. The goal would never have come close to occurring only for that vision and execution by Manning.

He was really good all game. And he takes a good free kick.

His best position is a tough one to know. He was deeper tonight that I think he'd been previously- I think he was the left of the middle three in a 4-3-3 tonight. Previously, he was on the left of the three in a 4-2-3-1. As far as I know. He marked space well tonight and was up and down the pitch. He looks to have quality on the ball too. And a decent set piece.
