Is it me or do we have more players at the top half of the championship now than in a long time? Maybe I'm only noticing more now because they are young and breaking through but the numbers seem greater.

I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
I think our player numbers are steadily increasing across the divisions in the last year or so, after bottoming out just before that.
At the same time a bit disappointing that there is so little Irish involvement in the championship playoffs this year. Only Fulham of the four teams have Irish players in the first team and also Leeds who were promoted have no Irish first team players. So still plenty of room for improvement.

Manning keeps getting linked with a Premier League move. I haven't seen much of him this season but his defensive capabilities keep getting highlighted as being insufficient. His attacking qualities are obviously borne out by his impressive stats. So, I'm not sure if the links are drummed up by representatives. Or if they're genuine and his defensive weaknesses aren't as irreparable as some would have you believe. Or if the clubs linked don't see him as a long term left back.
It's a strange one.
I don't think it's that strange. I think there's always what I'd call "highlight bias."
Players who show up in the highlights for the right reasons (generally offensively) will always attract the interest of clubs on a more regular basis, even though that might not represent the totality of their contribution.
I imagine there are some elite defenders who are slow to rise to higher levels of the game despite their effectiveness, simply because they contribute minimally offensively.
So you think that Premiership clubs would sign a player based on highlights and would avoid doing the due diligence that a lot of Ireland supporters would, even though it would be they forking out the millions?
They won't make decisions based on highlights. I just believe that offensive contributions more often lead to transfers. There's also a general attitude that defending can be taught, but offensive skill is generally something you have or you don't, which probably plays into that as well.
It's being suggested that Manning may be frozen out by Warburton due to his reluctance to sign a new contract. It would be disappointing if his current rate of progress and career momentum were disrupted in this way - just look at how it affected O'Dowda...
Recently signed with a new agency, so we'll see how it plays out.

Manning isn't in the squad for QPR today...
Manning absence explained:

Hard to see how freezing him out will achieve anything other than chase him away from the club. Even if the Premier League interest doesn't materialise there must be quite a few Championship teams that could afford him with just a year left on his contract.
Yep. Terrible management.
Tony Mowbray (Blackburn) still very keen on Ryan M, according to Lancashire Telegraph today (18/09/20).
Financial considerations aside, that would appear to be a bit of a pointless move for Manning - simply swapping one mid-table Championship side for another.
a few more premier league teams interested in this guy. whats next?
Really? Like who?
Mowbray on Manning:
Is there anything you can tell us on Ryan Manning?
"No. That's a name you've just thrown at me. It's not true. I think Ryan Manning is a very good footballer, I imagine QPR are not going to let him walk away.
"We haven't got any money to buy anybody. How much is Ryan Manning going to cross(cost?)? If you're going to buy a player, you have to buy the player and then you have to give him a salary.
"I know exactly to the penny how much we've got but it's probably a couple of loans or a signing, I would suggest, and I'm not sure I'd want to spend it all on Ryan Manning when we've got Amari'i Bell doing ok, so there's other areas I feel we need to strengthen first."
