A few Irish made some rare appearances oin the cup at the weekend.
Alan O'Brien made his Newcastle debut coming on as a sub against Mansfield.
Micheal Timlin came on as a sub for Fulham against Leyton Orient.

A guy called Cogan, a native of Sligo I think has being getting in on a regular basis for Millwall lately, and set up the goal against Everton.
Always look on the bright side of life
I read The Independent (UK paper) this morning and they singled out Barry Cogan as having been impressive.Originally Posted by drummerboy
DEENY IS THE TOAST OF DERRY AND BURTON ALBION
A last-minute save by Saul Deeney took Burton Albion through to a money-spinning play-off against the premiership giants at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old Shantallow goal stopper, who is on a monthly contract, produced a string of fine saves, including two shots from Wayne Rooney.
And in injury time, Deeney dramatically saved Ritchie Jones' low strike to guarantee the conference side another chance to play against the millionare stars of Man United.
Deeney who has represented Ireland at underage level, is one of the growing number of young hopefuls from the North who are trying to make the breakthrough in England and go on to represent their country at full international level.
Fellow Derry lad, 18 year old Darron Gibson has been making good progress at Manchester United and made his first team debut during united's 3rd round game in the Carling Cup. Gibson is an Ireland u19 international who is likely to feature when the Irish squad travel to Slovakia for the elite stages of the European championships in May.

There was a lengthy interview with Deeney on R5 Live last night & they replayed the radio commentary of his last minute save (which I actually though was a bit lucky). They were heralding him as "The Great Saul Deeney", a play on The Great Houdini I suppose. He's actually saying he may not sign a contract with Burton meaning he may miss the replay! This guy knows what he wants. He says he's good enough for the Championship which for a 22 yr old is a pretty good place to be. As I said earlier, if Henderson can cut it at that level so too can Deeney.
Karl Bermingham started for Man City's reserves in a 1-0 win over a Birmingham reserve side including Marcos Painter, and Neil Kilkenny (can anyone confirm who he's going to play for now??).
Bermingham was substituted midway through the second half, and appears to have played on the wing again. Not sure how he's progressing this season after scoring regularly for the reserves last season playing up front he's played on the wing and at full back this season.

Alan Lee joining Ipswich today
If you are talking about Deeny's save where he was already gone one way and managed to manouvre both his feet up a bit to make a clean contact with the deflected ball. imo 'twas a reflex save. I would be interested to know his penalty saving record. I thought if only he was in goal for Ireland for the last Spanish penalty. There was a lengthy interview with Deeney on R5 Live last night & they replayed the radio commentary of his last minute save (which I actually though was a bit lucky ).
I would not mind if some of our players were involved in the televised games from Italy or Spain. I started to watch that dreary Man City v Spurs game last week, fell sound asleep, my kids couldn't believe their luck and managed to free the remote from my cold grey hands.
He was very highly rated some seasons back. Blackburn took him trial. But nothing materialised..Originally Posted by Stuttgart88

He should be aiming higher than Forest, no?
Irish Underage international. David Bell of Rushden and Diamons is negotiating personal terms with Luton after the clubs agreed a £100,000 fee.
was actually going to ask about him, remembering he was a highly rated a couple of years back, doesn't he have a cousin at Rushden also named David Bell?Originally Posted by Tenderloins
Bell played for us in the U20s in UAE having been a very late addition to the squad. I thought he loked like a very skilful player and was wondering why he could only play for Rushden.
Mansfield terminated Gavin Peers contract by mutual consent . think he might be joining us![]()
