from the 'blue army' site on Paddy McCarthy's injury
Paddy waiting game
by BILL ANDERSON
Craig Levein is anxiously awaiting a fitness check on Paddy McCarthy to see if his Leicester City defence can remain intact for tomorrow night's trip to Plymouth.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international managed to play on in Saturday's draw at Preston despite a fierce challenge by Patrick Agyemang which went unpunished.
But McCarthy may not be able to resume his emerging central defensive partnership with Swede Patrik Gerrbrand which gained a second successive clean sheet at Deepdale.
The solidity of the defence was one of few plus-points Levein took out of Saturday's draw and he said: "Paddy is lucky he did not get his leg broken.
"It was a terrible challenge and if he had not had his foot off the ground then I am sure it would have been a fracture.
"We will have to have a look at him to see if he is all right for tomorrow night, but there will be changes.
"Joey Gudjonsson is suspended for a start and there could be other options in other areas."
If McCarthy does not make it, then Dion Dublin is a ready-made replacement at the back, although Levein is also looking to boost his attack after they failed to cash in on some good chances at Preston.
