Conal Platt was on Football Focus this morning. He was released by Liverpool and looking for a new team. He played in a match with other unattached players with a load of scouts watching. He got injured during the match but apparantly there's still interest from lower league clubs.

Not much, just googled him. He was at an U-16's trial for the Ireland underage teams at the end of December arranged by Ireland U-16 manager, Vincent Butler. He has been in a few Ireland Under-15 squads.

    This weekends action

-Dunne played full game for Man City (lost 1-0 home to Bolton) did quite well saving City a couple of times.

-Willo Flood played first 45 mins, looked ok, a couple of decent crosses was subbed for McManaman in what I think was more of a tactical change (Flood isnt as attacking as McManaman and City were 1 down at half time)

-Nolan played for Bolton (I dont think he will play for us, tho technically he can, and I didnt think Macken would a few years ago)

-Kenny Cunningham played (full 90) for Birmingham in their 2-0 loss at West Brom

-Clinton was a non-playing sub in the above fixture, Steve Bruce brought on Blake instead of him

-Kilbane played the full 90 for Everton in thir 1-0 home defeat to Blackburn

-Stevie Reid played the 90 for Blackburn and had IMO a very impressive game, I hope he makes a squad for a friendly soon as he's been doing well of late

-Roy Keane played the full 90 for Man Utd at Palace, was prob their best player.

-O'Shea was an unused sub in the above.

-Matt Holland had a solid 90 mins for Charlton at Fulham (0-0)

-Given played the full 90 for Newcastle in their 1-0 home win v Liverpool as did Carr, but no sign of O'Brien.

-Finnan played the full 90 of the above fixture for Liverpool

-Delap played 50 mins for S'hampton in their 1-0 home win vs Spurs.

-Kelly played c. 70 mins for Spurs, Reid played 75 mins and then Robbie came on for Reid and played the last few mins.

-Duffer played about 70 mins for Chelsea in their 3-1 win at Norwich City.

    Championship

    - Quigley played almost the whole game for Millwall in their 1-1 draw at home to Leeds. Anyone see the match ?

    - Kenny played full 90 in nets for Sheff Utd in their 1-0 loss at Cardiff, Quinn came on for the last 5 or so mins.

    - Lee was suspended for Cardiff in the above fixture.

    - Kennedy played full 90 for Wolves (won 4-1 at Crewe)

    - Coughlan played full 90 for Plymouth (lost 1-0 at Derby)

-Maybury played all but the last few mins for Leicester and Connolly played full 90 in their 1-0 loss at home to Forest.

-Rowlands and Gallen played full 90 in QPRs 0-0 (home) draw with Reading

-Dave Kitson played full 90 in the above for Reading

-Kav played 70 mins of his debut for Wigan (1-0 home win v Ipswich).

-Breen played full 90 for Sunderland (won 2-0 at Burnley, Friday match), Thornton played well in the 70 mins he was on the pitch for them.

League 1 (only know some of the matches)

-Joe Murphy played full 90 in Walsall's 2-0 defeat at Blackpool

-Delaney played full 90 for Hull in their 3-1 win at Prenton Park (had a good game according to people there)

    Big list.

Players could only change allegiance in the calander year 2004 if they played for another country before that afaik (could be an age limit though) so afaik Nolan et al can't declare for us anymore.

Karl Bermingham came on for the last half hour or so for Lincoln City, had 3 chances to score but missed them all, in a 3-2 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers

    Coventry res 3-2 Arsenal res
Stokes scored 2, Barrett scored 2. Sean Kelly and Stephen O'Donnell also started for Arsenal. Sean Cooney started for Coventry.

    Neil Banfield on Stokes:
"He's got another two goals, and to be fair to Tony he's playing on the right side of midfield but he's scoring again and doing a job for the team which is good. His education is good as he is learning another position. I know he wants to play down the middle but he's done ever so well for us tonight."

West Brom res 1-0 Birmingham res
James O'Connor started for West Brom. Marcus Painter came on as a sub for Birmingham.

    Bolton res 2-1 Liverpool res
Joey O'Brien captained a Bolton team which included Pedersen, Jaidi and Campo. Potter and Partridge started for Liverpool with Partridge going off after 27 minutes with his 3rd injury of the season.

Everton res 1-0 Man City res
Patrick Boyle started up front again for Everton, Anthony Gerrard also started if thats worth mentioning. Stephen Ireland was the only Irish player in the City team and he was involved in most of their chances. Good news is that Willo Flood wasn't included in the squad while Croft and Bradley W-Phillips started. Looks like he's in line for another start, maybe.

    Portsmouth res 3-0 Spurs res
Marc Wilson started for Pompey and Mark Yeates started for Spurs. Yeates had a few chances.

John Fitzgerald missed 1 game for Bury, because he was playing for the U-21's, since he joined them on loan in January. Other than that he has started every game for them.

Bury are one of the few league 2 teams with a decent message board and I've been looking to see what the fans think of him. It seems he had a slow start but has come on leaps and bounds in just 8 matches, and is improving with every game. He made the "Team of the day" in the News of the World last weekend. The fans all seem to agree that the only loan player that has been a success is Fitzgerald.

BURY boss Graham Barrow is hoping to keep centre-back John Fitzgerald for the rest of the season.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who is on loan from Premiership Blackburn Rovers, has gone from strength to strength since arriving at the end of January.

And Barrow wants the no-nonsense defender to conintue to forge a formidable partnership with skipper Dave Challinor and Colin Woodthorpe at the heart of the Shakers back line.

Fitzgerald was initially staying at Gigg Lane for a month but extended his time with the Shakers for a further two weeks following injury and suspensions to Woodthorpe and Challinor respectively.

But Barrow, who likens the Dubliner to former Manchester United star Steve Bruce, is hoping a deal can be arranged to keep Fitzgerald at Gigg for the rest of the campaign.

"Fitzy has grown into the job the longer he has been with us," he said.

"It hasn't been an easy time for loan players to join us but he is a good character and was as delighted as any of our players at the win at the weekend.

"I'd love to be able to keep him longer and we'll have to see if that is possible.

"He is fighting for his footballing career at present and you can see that in his performances."
Just to add, they really rate Andy Keogh highly too and think he's too good for league 2 (he's with Scúnthorpe now).

John Fitzgerald speaks to Shakers World about his future and today's game with Bristol Rovers.

"I've got better and better as each game has gone on, it's just fitness. Since I have been playing week in and week out I've really enjoyed it. I'm due back at Blackburn now and the last thing I want to do is play for the reserves. The gaffer at Bury wants me for a whole longer and if it comes down to that I will have no problems with staying at Gigg Lane."

"I'm out of contract at the end of the season and I've spoken to Mark Hughes this week and I won't be staying with Rovers, so the next few weeks will be important to me."

"Today we pushed in the second half and I thought we deserved more, we've basically battered them for 90 minutes and we've conceded a sloppy goal and we got punished for it, it seems to happen to us every week. Hopefully we can stop conceding goals like that and push on with some good second half performances."

"Kelham told us at half time to go out and get a scrappy goal like we conceded, but we only seem to be able to hit outstanding strikes. It was a fantastic goal and I was delighted for Simon Whaley and the gaffer."

"We got a lot of crosses in but we didn't really threaten the goal enough, we never looked like we'd get on the end of them. We've got to look after ourselves; we can't keep looking over our shoulders. We have to look up and push up the table."

"I came off after I felt my Achilles go a little, and I have an Ireland U21 match in Israel in a few weeks, plus I want to be here for the Yeovil game next week. I didn't want to risk the ankle, I could have gone out for the second half and been out for a month."
Good to see him thinking of Ireland as soon as he gets injured.

Arsenal reserves won 3-2 against Chelsea,Stokes,Cregg,O'Donnell all started on the bench and James Simmonds was on the bench for Chelsea.Stokes and Cregg came on neither scored but Stoke's sent an "intelligent, raking ball forward" Alliadiare then collected the pass and was fouled in the area he then took the penalty himself and scored.
Bolton reserves won 1-0 against Newcastle reserves Joey O'Brien started.

The Arsenal website is wrong. Stokes started, Quincy didn't. Cregg came on for Stokes on the 68th minute, good to see him back. Simmonds came on for the last 10 minutes, I think he was also injured recently. O'Donnell came on after 65 minutes for Gilberto. Kelly didn't get off the bench.

Bolton reserves won 1-0 against Newcastle reserves Joey O'Brien started.
Alan O'Brien also started for Newcaslte and nearly scored at the end.
