I don't think this is any great surprise, but it's very encouraging:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ty/5194018.stm

Leicester defender Patrick McCarthy will captain the side next season.

McCarthy deputised for Danny Tiatto for most of the last campaign and will continue duties on the pitch with Tiatto staying on as club captain.

"I have always dreamt of captaining a big side like Leicester," McCarthy, 23, told the club's website.

"There are a lot of big voices in the dressing-room so it isn't all going to be on my shoulders. I 'll get a helping hand from a few senior professionals."

Leicester manager Rob Kelly wants Tiatto, 33, to play more first-team football this season and thinks he will be under less pressure without the captain's armband.

"I want him to concentrate on himself this season," said Kelly.

"I've taken the extra responsibility away from him but he fully understands the situation."

Richard Dunne and Willo Flood played the first 45 minutes, with Flood at right full, while Stephen Ireland was part of an entirely different outfield ten for the second 45 as Man City drew 3-3 with Wrexham, Ireland laying on the pass for the second of Man City's goals.

Aiden McGeady was man of the match in Celtic's 1-1 draw with New England Revolution, while Darren O'Dea was (again) an unused sub in the game.

I watched this game and McGeady looks a much better player than this time last year. His end product and strength have improved massively. He is also not just lagging on the wing and is all over the pitch trying to get the ball. I hope he keeps progressing. He played behind the strikers for a good bit of the match and looked good.

Graham Coughlan and Glen Whelan played the entire 90 minutes for Wednesday against an MSL All Stars team - including Romario on the bench!! - after only playing 60 in the previous game. Coughlan also captained.

Stephen Ireland started and Willo Flood was a late second half sub as Man City came from 2-0 down to beat Rochdale 3-2, with Ireland setting up City's first goal. Flood came on for Micah Richards, suggesting he again played in defence??

    Rochdale review: http://www.rochdaleafc.premiumtv.co.....html?ptvParm=

Robbie Keane played as Spurs beat a Birmingham City side including Stephen Kelly, with Marcos Painter and Alex Bruce coming on as second half replacements 2-0, with Berbatov nicking both goals. Colin Doyle was an unused sub for Birmingham.

Glen Whelan played the full 90 minutes, and Graham Coughlan again captained Sheffield Wednesday as they beat Rochester Raging Rhinos (what a name!!) 2-0 in the last game of their preseason tour of the US

Mc Geady had a good 30mins for Celtic against Everton.
Brought menace and penetration to a very limp attack. Showed a natural awareness for the incisive pass. He didn't get much over Neville but when cutting inside he was much more effective than at the Chile friendly.
Old soldier Carsley patrolled around midfield, can still pinpoint a 50 yard pass, if he holds his place in the first team he could be there or thereabouts in the Irish squad.
