Willo Flood set up the only goal of the game as Man City's reserves beat Leeds' second string 1-0. Flood missed out on the weekend game against Spurs because of a virus.

GIBSON CAPTAIN'S UNITED RESERVES IN DALLAS CUP OPENER

Ireland u19 international Darron Gibson was handed the captaincy for Man United in their opening game against Real Madrid in the Dallas cup.

United's Reserves made a winning start to their Dallas Cup campaign with a hard-fought victory over Real Madrid.

A record DC attendance of 17,105 filled the Pizza Hut Park Stadium as Fraizer Campbell's brace and a penalty from Giuseppe Rossi gave the Reds the spoils.

Derry born Gibson was instrumental in United taking the lead when he struck a trademark long-range volley towards goal in the 51st minute, and Campbell managed to divert the ball's course into the back of the net.

Colchester won last night to put pressure on Brentford (incl. Jay Tabb) for the second automatic promotion spot.

Extract from The Times' match report:

Danns, signed from Blackburn Rovers, took centre stage by heading in an 83rd-minute cross from Mark Yeates, who is on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and turning in a centre from Billy Clarke at the far post on 90 minutes for his sixteenth goal of the season.

Jim O'Brien and Darren O'Dea started while Diarmuid O'Carroll was a late sub as Celtic's reserves came from a goal down to draw with Kilmarnock's second string. The result puts the Bhoys 4 points clear of second placed Aberdeen and on course for the reserve title, and a domestic treble of titles at senior, reserve and U-19 level. The Dons, however, have a game in hand.

And the most unpopular man in Cardiff, Irish interntaional wannabe Lee Trundle, had a blinder last night according to this match report, though Swindon is hardly Germany or Czech Republic.

Manchester City's reserves played their second game in 3 days and came from a goal down to draw with Newcastle's reserves including Alan O'Brien. This is the first time in a long time there were no Irish lads on the Man City side, Flood being promoted back to the senior side after proving his fitness on Monday, and no sign of Karl Bermingham.

Just came across my team sheet for the FA Premier Reserve League game on the 22nd March 2006 between Portsmouth and Watford. Just the two names I came across for Watford. Joe O'Cearuill and John Joe O'Toole. I didnt have the team sheet until after the game so I didnt take too much notice and it was a very very cold night on the South coast. Anyhow both are London born. Joe is a 3rd year 'scholar' and started and John Joe is a first year 'scholar'. Apologies if either have been mentioned and its all in the names.

Karl Moore and Garry Breen started for Man City, while Michael Daly was an unused sub, in their 3-0 FA Youth Cup First Leg loss to Liverpool, for whom Jimmy Ryan was an unused sub. From the reports, it seems Karl Moore was part of Man City's best moves, setting up 2 decent chanches that weren't converted, while Garry Breen shot wide from inside the area. Probably would have scored if it was Saudi Arabia

Darren O'Carroll started, while Paul Cahillane and Graham Carey were substitutes as Celtic's U-19s beat their closest rivals, Motherwell, to clinch the title for the fourth time in a row. With the senior side also winning their title, all that remains is for the reserve side, currently leading the SPL Reserve League, to win that title for a hat trick of domestic league wins.

Darren O'Dea and Jim O'Brien starred as Celtic's reserves beat Motherwell's reserve side 2-1 to clinch the reserve league title and make it a hat trick of domestic leagues for Celtic. O'Dea scored the winner with only a few minutes remaining in the game.

No review of the game on Celtic's website, but there is a news report about winning the title:http://www.celticfc.net/newsroom/new...4-18_2152gk%27
