Loads of Irish in action in the Championship. I'm busy at work so don't have time to get everyone in but some highlights include:

Ben Burgess with a really great headed goal for Hull City. Alan Dunne with an assist for Millwall in the same game.

Doyle & Stephen Hunt played in reading's 2-1 win over Sheff Utd for whom Paddy Kenny should have been sent off and Alan Quinn set up SUFC's equaliser. (eirebhoy - Quinn played left midfield!). Geary was on the bench.

    Douglas played for Leeds.

I didn't see any Irish for Leicester this week - suspensions I presume.

Both the O'Connors figured strongly for Burnley. James got a goal I think.

Coughlan scored (again) for SWFC. Whelan played but Partridge was an unused sub I think.

Doc played for Norwich but McShane & Henderson were the wrong end of a 3-1 thumping.

    Kennedy played for Wolves.

In the PL Stephen Ireland had a blinder by all accounts. The Observer said that "rarely could Shay Given have had such an outstanding game" while Robbie & Duff both scored. I thought Robbie's finish was quite lucky & Duff's first touch was heavy but I'll take the same again next week.

Clean sheet for O'Brien & Richie Dunne too. Carr too I suppose. No sign of Holland at all for Charlton. Reid played for B'burn & Kav played the full 90 for Wigan. He must be playing well as Wigan are on a great run. I'm told Stephen Elliott was very good for Sunderland. Finnan looked poor yesterday I thought.

    derby v leicester 1-1

just Logan on the bench due to the suspensions.McCarthy will be available again for the next game but Maybury has one more game to serve,it will be interesting to see if they come straight back in to the side as the goals conceded from set pieces which have blighted the season so far have stopped in the last couple of games, but neither has the team managed a win.

Heres an interview with Paddy McCarthy from the ''blue army'' site about his recent suspension etc.........

I want to win my shirt back quick!

    by BILL ANDERSON

Paddy McCarthy is even more determined to get back into the Leicester City team after sitting out his first game of the season.

His one-match ban for five bookings meant he was only an on-looker as his team-mates went so close to a boosting win at Derby County on Saturday.

Dion Dublin was outstanding in the centre of the defence and Patrik Gerrbrand made his league debut to underline what McCarthy is up against to earn his return.

He said: "I have now got to work hard to get back in the team. There has always been competition but the lads all played well at Derby.

"It was always going to be difficult for a new team to set the world on fire. We are not too far away and I think everyone can see encouraging signs.

"I thought Derby were dead and buried, and that we deserved the three points. Now we are looking towards the Watford game and to get the three points there."

McCarthy admitted: "The suspension was frustrating because I want to play every game.

"The boss has had a word about the bookings but it does not mean I will change my style, just be a bit more sensible."

McCarthy was one of last season's influx, a process that continued right up to last Thursday's arrival on loan of Arsenal winger Ryan Smith which underlined the transitional aspect of the squad at the moment and McCarthy said: "It is basically a new team coming into the club but it is becoming a bit more stable.

"There is a great spirit around the camp and, though we are near the bottom of the table, three or four wins can take us right up into the top half.

"Those victories have been only inches away on occasions and we are all looking to turn the corner when the action starts again."

    Synnott blow for Ipswich

Ipswich defender Michael Synnott will be sidelined until the New Year after undergoing surgery to cure his ankle injury.

Scans revealed the Irish defender had suffered a fracture which looks set to consign him to the sidelines until February.

Ipswich physio Dave Williams: "We are looking at four months or so before Michael is back playing again, he caught his studs in the grass when training on Thursday morning and went over on the ankle awkwardly.

"It's a fracture but it's on his 'good' ankle if you like and obviously not related in any way to the ankle ligament problem he had earlier this season," he told the club's official website.

Doyle had a decent game for Reading just now, Morrison and Macken scored for Palace yesterday, think O'Conner also scored for Burnley again.

Saw Wigan v Newcastle on WebTV, and Kav had a great game for Wigan.

    watford v leicester 1-2

Paddy McCarthy came straight back into the side after his one game suspension for 5 yellows, the manager moved Johanson to left back and paired Dublin with McCarthy in the centre and he had a good game.avoided a booking was generally solid throughout.the watford goal was an individual error from Dublin.

none of the other irish lads were involved and Maybury will again be available following his ban for burnley on tuesday evening, however the manager has hinted he may stick with the side who managed the clubs first away win in 14 months.

I suggested a few pages back to update the players pages on the wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor...nd_footballers when adding in a post, makes it a bit easier to keep track of current events
