I was following the Rovers-Brummie game on the internet. Reid had a fairly decent game, if not MOM at least one of the best players on show. He went quitely about his business in the first half and helped set up the 1st goal. In the second half he scored a decent goal, had a few more efforts on target, generally did well up and down the wing and got stuck in to help out the defence. Sounded like he really came to life after scoring. Let's hope that was the spark he needs to start performing in the permiership like used to for Millwall in the Championship.
Morrison was totally off the pace and is clearly not match-fit. The only thing he did of note was to have the vision to step over a Melchiot cut back and leave it for Dunne to score.
Brummie conceeded 3 goals but it wasn't mentioned that Cunningham was at fault for any of them.
This was my impression from following the game through text updates.

give morrison a break. He is just back after a serious injury. He looks like he still has some of the confidence of Paris. Hopefully he will get a good run of games from now till January and gets his fitness up. I think he will be on form in 2005.
I wasn't having a go at Morrisson. I know he's just back from an injury, that's why I said he was probably not match-fit. It will be nice to have the luxury of a choice of 3 good strikers if he continues to play like he did before his injury, if Elliott continues to impress and if Keane gets some form. Reids block/failed clearence 'assisted' Brummie one goal, he was also
beaten on the wing in the build up to another.
He did of course provide an assist himself.
Cunningham was always in a losing battle chasing back for one
goal (positioning? actually he was better positioned than the missing
Birmingham defenders and was left alone marking too forwards).
Reid felled Gronkjaer with a elbow to the stomach (not spotted by ref).
Reids goal actually took a deflection (apparent from another angle).
Overall Reid had a good game probably the first time I have seen him
play well (don't see him play that often though).
I also heard him being interviewed on the radio pre-match and he
sounded upbeat about his current form, which was born out by his
performance.
I caught the highlights last night on MOTD. Reid played O.K but still looks like he needs more games.
His fitness is definately back and he had the right ideas in his use of the ball going forward but there was a couple of over hit or slightly stray passes, which to be expected given his extended absence. This will improve between now and Jan, and then hopefully he can hold off any competition from any transfer window purchases.
Defensively his positioning was a bit suspect for one of the goals but I don't think he was as much at fault for savages goal as made out. It was a hard ball to control as far as I could see and there where Birmingham players lurking behind him as the ball was squared. It was just unfortunate that the ball fell so kindly to savage after his block/Attempted control.
Over all he looked promising. Another few starts and I think he'll be far better for it. I'd rather se him beside a more experienced midfield than theone he's in at the minute. Seemed to lack leadership.
I'm hoping he fullfills the promise he showed early on in his Ireland career. Up until the Russia game i really did think this chap was the bees knees. As good as Kilbane is doing, his erratic tendancies do worry me. I do think that if he gets his act together Steven Reid could do a job as Keanes 'legs' in the middle of the park.

As an Arsenal & Celtic fan I was pretty p1ssed off about this weekend's football.
That was until Sunday afternoon.
I thought Elliott looked the real deal for Sunderland and although his goal was hardly spectacular it was the work of an instinctive goal scorer.
In the next game Steven Reid had a mixed first half. Got caught out of position a few times and generally seemed to prefer a cautious pass sideways or backwards. He did play a big part in the first goal though.
His second half performance was a different story. Full of confidence and a sense of urgency, he was all over the pitch and his passing, tackling and running was about as good as he has done in 18 months.
I think Hughes obviously rates him whereas Souness did little for his confidence. He started his Rovers career as replacement right-back and Rovers' bad results and his own injuries meant he never got out of the traps. Until this weekend that is. Hopefully he'll build on this as he could raelly do a job for us on RHM if Finnan moves to LB. As pointed out above, it's not stretching the imagination to see him doing a job in CM too.

Feckin' slept it fo the Rovers game on Sunday. So I can't pass comment on Steven Reid's performance in that game.
However , as I've said on this messageboard before. The fact he's a first team regular in the Blackburn team is siginificant given the range of options in midfield they have. Ferguson, Tugay, Thompson, Flitcroft, Emerton, Gamst Pedersen (Norweigan player fo the year), Javier de Pedro were all ahead of Reid in Souness' mind (IMO) so its been a real kick start for Reid's career with Sparky coming on board.
I agree thoroughly that a confident, fully fit Steven Reid is potentially the ideal central midfield partner for Roy Keane. Both players would benefit from each others presence. Reid for Roy's big game experience, Keane for the athleticism that Reid undoubtedly has.

Couldn't agree more. IMO Finnan should be our 1st choice RMF, we have McGeady coming through, Andy Reid and Miller can do a job there too. We desperately need someone of real quality in CMF and hopefully S. Reid can be groomed for this role. Roy will be retiring soon, Holland and Kav haven't got many years left, Kilbane is good at breaking up the opposition's attacks but is not very useful in attack himself, we don't know how strong or even if Healy will come back after his latest setback, Quinn is a good 1st division player and is knocking in the goals recently but he's far from top-class and I'm still a bit unsure about Miller.
With S.Reid included in the team we would finally have a decent free kick taker that can lash them in from 25 yards or more, which is one major thing we have been missing recently. Then there would be no argument for Harte to make the starting 11.
So it's up to him to show what he can do over the next few months because he's finally been given a run in one position for Blackburn.
Hopefully he'll shine through.
Reid set up the only goal of the game so far for Blackburn against Fulham.
