North End v Listowel (FAI Junior)

Deserved win by North End in Wexford today against a game Listowel side. First half was the better with both sides creating chances. On five minutes, Listowel had a shot deflected just past the right-hand post for a corner. On 15 minutes, NE's Paul Murphy was put through, but his shot hit the arm of the Listowel keeper then cannoned off the post and stayed out. A minute later, Kyle Dempsey managed to round the Listowel keeper and pulled it back for Adam Beary who could only hit the last defender on the goal-line from six yards out. On 18 minutes, Walker in the NE goal had to tip over a Listowel for a corner. Paul Murphy then had a volley over the Listowel bar and, with ten minutes to go, Walker had to again tip over a good Listowel effort from a free for a corner. With two minutes to go in the half, NE's Lee Wadding got a second yellow for a tackle with no complaints from NE to leave the home side a man down for the second half. 0-0 at half-time.

Listowel never really used their man advantage in the second half and appeared to run out of steam a bit as the second half progressed. As a result, they only really applied pressure on NE's goal in the last few minutes. On 12 minutes, Shane Dempsey had an effort which went about a foot over. Little threat by either side then until 25 minutes, when Robin Dempsey connected with a free with a far-post header to put the home side 1-0 up. Again, Listowel didn't really threaten until five to go, when their winger could have gone down with a shout of a peno but instead stayed on his feet. A minute later, Stuey Lawlor had a header cleared off the Listowel line and then Adam Beary couldn't hit the target from 35 yards out with the Listowel keeper stranded way off his line. Listowel had a free-kick and a corner right at the end but couldn't score from either. Match then finished on 1-0 scoreline. Best for NE were again the quality players of Robin Dempsey and Paul Murphy, whilst they were well-supported on this occasion by Stuey Lawlor, Shane Dempsey and Kyle Dempsey. About 250 at the match.
