Towell made the most of it to be fair.

Dundalk would have taken that. Unlucky not to have gotten a second but the scoreline was probably fair.

A draw could well have been had but a 2-1 is a solid result to work with.

I'm in oriel park and people are celebrating. While it's a good result after that performance I feel like points were dropped. We proved we were more than good enough.

They are well in the tie and a packed Oriel Park should make for a very entertaining 2nd leg!

Entertaining game, all to play for in Oriel next week. With any luck RTE or Setanta will pick it up with a big game on the cards.

Good result for Dundalk now. Definitely a chance in the home leg after that. BATE players seemed annoyed with themselves and slightly frustrated towards the end.
Hopefully the Oriel and its horrible plastic pitch will annoy them a wee bit more, and we'll see another LoI team through.
Have you ever won the treble?

Dundalk have a decent chance - but we said that about St Pats after they drew in Warsaw last year. They may need to get the sports sociologists in. Should be interesting next week...

You look at a lot of the games played tonight and they are all tight affairs. The same with last night's matches bar some exceptions. There are not many easy games left in Europe in the qualifying rounds. What this tells me is that the seeded sides don't have it all their own way and Dundalk should go into next week's game with plenty of confidence. Yes BATE are a good side and still favourites but they are hardly Bayern or Barca. I hope the match is on tv as it would be a crying shame if it isn't but I wouldn't be holding my breath.

Looks like a cracker set up for oriel next week.

bate beat Slovan 4-1 last year. I choose to take encouragement from Dundalk's result. :-)

Edit - and the Luxembourg score actually. 1-1 away to dinamo zagreb now

Very nice play from a composed Dundalk, they made Bate look vanilla.
Pity about that gammy deflected goal.

    But off.
Dundalk are the shining light in a poor league. Isn't that bleedin' obvious?
The smart players want to play with Dundalk.

They held out for the 1-1 draw. All the more impressive considering they were down to 10 for the last half hour.
