Dundalk limited to long-ball game. Need to string some passes together.

    Yup.

Tis a huge, huge opportunity for Dundalk though.

    10 minutes to seize it.

    That's the end of that.

BATE won pretty much everything in the air the last ten minutes.

No one can tell me that pitch helps Dundalk.

Yeah, better than Dundalk. Just surprisingly poor for a team that have been around Europe for a while.

Tough luck, Dundalk. Brave effort all round but it was very much huff-and-puff towards the end. The break never really looked like coming. Very frustrating and demoralising as it was such a great chance to progress given the circumstances; that Dundalk team are a cut above and they would have faced very, very ordinary opponents in the next round. Can't fault the effort though. Argh!

Exactly what I was thinking, pinning all over the place.

When they won that free kick on the edge of the box in the last minute, I expected them to keep possession for the rest of the game. Instead, they hoofed it up and lost it within 20 seconds. That's criminal stuff. Very surprised to see it.

Still, looking like Dundalk will have another chance next year, so if they can take this year on board and get a nicer draw, you never know...

You could tell by their final-whistle celebrations just how relieved they were to get through.

I think Ireland is up to 0.700 now?
    Rovers 0.300
    UCD 0.200
Cork City 0.100 (though the fact that a win/loss on pens counts as a draw and AET doesn't baffles me)
    Dundalk 0.100
    St. Pats 0.000

    We're losing 1.000 points though

Considering they've beaten Bayern and Bilbao in recent group stages, it really does seem like the chance that got away for Dundalk. Still, hopefully the ranking points banked so far, and maybe even something special tomorrow at Belfield will boost the co-efficient enough for a softer 2016 draw!

We were 40th this year, and won't be any higher than 39th next year; probably less.

But the national coefficient is less important now that there's a club coefficient as well. Dundalk have a long way to go to be seeded at this stage.

I've said for years it hinders the quality footballers they have there

    It's awful

'Tis indeed a shame. The difference between the two legs in terms of how Dundalk were able to play with the ball was simply vast. The pitch held them back tonight.

Ah no one wants them to win. Fenlon certainly didn't look like he did last week.

No complaints with the result. BATE upped their performance considerably and controlled the game.

Dundalk were unable to get control of the ball in midfield and BATE were quick to expose any gaps left by Dundalk. The BATE number 22 was very clever at this.

It's never nice going out to an unsporting team but there is no doubting BATE's quality.

They were a pack of gurriers, to be fair. Dundalk probably should have been more cute in milking the constant fouls.

Just back from the match and i'm not going to get in to arguments about the pitch or give any huge analysis about the match.Very dissapointed with the result as you can imagine but just wanted to mention the support and the non-stop singing from our supporters in OP tonight which was immense throughout the game. What an atmosphere for the 90mins.

I'll be in The Bowl tomorrow evening to cheer on UCD v Slovan and good luck also to Shams in Norway v ODDS.
