Kurtis Byrne and Roberto Lopez scored two goals each in last years final when Bohs lift the venerable trophy.
You only have to look at the extraordinary trajectory in their careers since to realise the importance of doing well on the big stage.
UCD and Dundalk players will be desperately looking to get to the final to get the platform to impress Stephen Bradley, Liam Buckley and a host of other scouts
If a full UCD u19s team is fielded tomorrow it'll be the first time you will have seen the UCD u19s play this season, an important football stat. The commentary on potential UCD U19s opponents in prestigious UEFA Youth League should be taken in the context you don't watch the U19s.
Cup games are arranged on a flexible basis and that causes frustration among football fans. The clubs get on with it, the Fans have problems. The Leinster first began in 1892, it has the perseverance and longevity that many community-focused club fans could learn from.
Anti-Modernists Football Fans are engaged when a 3 year old UEFA tournament (UEFA Youth League) comes along. But dislike the 125 year old football tournament.
" I'll go right up to here,
it can't possibly hurt.
All they will find is my
beer and my shirt."
UCD catfight brewing here.
Can't see what was posted (though I can broadly guess).
But every club's got that one fan, I'm sure. Even us, and we've no fans.
Ah here Eziakial - am I to put you on my ignore list as well?!
1-1 again.
O'Neill with the opener for UCD again, and Clifford with the equaliser for Dundalk again.
Into extra time again.
UCD first team v Dundalk reserves. Which is a bit confusing as going by the past few years, UCD are Dundalk's reserves
And we lose 6-5 on penalties again. Exact replica of the League Cup game
Couple of hundred. Typical First Division crowd stuff. Decent game in fairness. Another good performance from Corbet in goals; you'd wonder has he got Dundalk interested at all.
Apparently Shels beat Pats in the other semi last week.
Whatever about its merits, the LSC really is the most appallingly run tournament imaginable. No promotion or schedule or anything; just random games which either happened last week or will happen in a month's time.
Its a very nice old fancy trophy not made of tin - what more do people want, rules and advance fixture lists??
I like the stupidity of the LSC. It's so badly organised it's endearing.
From 1892 it is definitely one for the purists! It is a pity that it isnt a better run competition as it would get non-league teams up against senior (reserve/youths) sides along with the other cups. In the absence o a reserve league it gives game time to players but there is no reason to be so shoddy with setting fixtures. How is the MSC run, is it so lax?
Its a smaller tournament but seems to be managed better. LOI teams enter in pre season, we usually get about up to the semi finals before the league starts and then the final is played in the next couple of months, depending on availability of the finalists. Great tournament, with loads of history (was won by Royal Engineers, who also won the FA Cup), and a nice trophy to boot. I'm always happy when we win it, and was annoyed that we went 9 years without winning it before this season.
Yeah, fixture dates tend to be more clear cut for one thing. Limerick certainly don't take it all that seriously, but never turn their noses up.
Final to be played in Oriel Park on Wednesday, 4th October. Kick-off at 7:45pm
