could you see ANYTHING in the north?
I was at the match east upper. I tried to boo aswell. I dont think the protest worked. Bit of a failure. Theres always next match
could you see ANYTHING in the north?
Unless there are serious changes at the FAi, the friendly against Portugal should be boycotted.
Boycotted or not - the tickets are already paid for. Cunning plan by the FAI to force us to part with hard earned cash.
Resign, now!
The fact that the FAI put on so much extra security in order to confiscate the cards alone was the topic of the Joe Duffy show yesterday.
The bad PR the FAI received as a result of the heavy handed stewards made it all worth while for me.
Don't think boycotting matches is a good idea....I see where you're coming from but you'll also be boycotting our country not just the organisation running our football!

Just a thought, if we brought in red balloons (uninflated) they would be easy to hide and then just blow them up when you get on the terrace
Red cards are easy to hide too if you know that the stewards are going to come looking for them...don't think anyone expected that at all...Originally Posted by Cowboy

If there is a protest at the next match you won't have to hide the cards. The FAI will have learnt their lesson and won't be instructing any stewards to take red pieces of paper of any Joe Soap.
What lesson have they learnt? That if they take the cards from people, no-one can protest? All at the low low cost of getting some bad publicity - sure they can just add that to the pile!![]()

What lessons have they learnt? That they are getting a much worse reputation by instructing their stewards to take all red cards off people. Every paper must have gave it a mention by now aswell as Newstalk and Radio 1 (and of course a lot of internet forums).Originally Posted by pineapple stu
Very few papers, I think. The Star had a photo, some had a line or two, the Irish Times had nothing.Originally Posted by eirebhoy

TBH, if they didn't care they wouldn't have stopped people protesting in the first place. The Irish Times actually did give it 2 or 3 lines BTW and thousands of people listen to Joe Duffy.Originally Posted by pineapple stu

I think that it was actually quite a positive result, considering that really it was thrown together a few days before by just a few individuals, + we wernt expecting the cards to be taken off people.
Lessons have been learned and we have more time to prepair for the next one. Also, although it wasnt huge, the media coverage we got was significant and obviously the FAI took us searously seeing as they had briefed the stewards and had the PA volume controls changed straight away.
Next time maybe we can have a more organised media side of things (I know 2 of us here who work/are involved in the media) and get more people involved in making red cards or whatever so we get more for the day of the match.
All in all, I think that a good start has been made.
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
The protest worked on many different levels...but should have been alot bigger I only met a hnadful of people from foot.ie in Murrays and ran around like a mad thing for half an hour handing out cards..it was very well recieved with people coming up looking for them....With more cards and more support from people in here it could have been huge...robinski produced the cards so thanks is needed for that...we got a fair bit of publicity because of the confiscation and if anyone can say it failed it can only have because of that.We got our point across and the FAI were scared shi*less..It was a sucess............end of..........

Lads if we organise (via email) a distrbution method for the next friendly where everyone knows where to go prematch etc we can be a lot more effective. Couple of leaks to the more interested members of the journalistic community, also known as anyone who covers the el, couldn't do any harm.

I thought that the protest went very well considering that is was organised by a small group of individuals. It got mentioned in nearly all the media and I think that the FAI confiscating the cards worked to our advantage. The FAI got vary bad press over it and no-one in the media can say that it was only a minority protest because we don't know how big it would have been.
