Nothing he said struck me as out of the ordinary.
I think he's getting a bit of slack for calling himself the best right back in the division (on his day), which was mentioned at the end of the Independent article as well. A lot of the Derby supporters haven't been impressed with his form over the past couple of seasons and think he came across arrogant. Others are more supportive. Much ado about nothing really, Derby is a very passionate football city and they can be quick to stick the knives in when things aren't going well.

It look to me as if the the defender go a touch on Christie's goal v Uruguary, might have been going in anyway though.
Can't be sure from the video though.
Jim Beglin thought Coates got a slight touch, but I don't think so myself. I think he swung at it off-balance and missed. I didn't notice the direction or momentum of the ball change from the moment Christie kicked it. Even if he did get the slightest of touches, it was going in anyway.Originally Posted by tricky_colour
