Oh yeah, it's could be a massive blow to Serbia. I just meant Denmark/Armenia getting to play them behind closed door probably won't matter too much to Portugal, at the end of the campaign.
The three docked points could be important if Serbia finish third.

Sorry, I meant if we finish third, those three docked points could have a bearing on whether we are the top-ranked team that automatically qualify.
Not qualification contenders but a stunning result tonight from the Faroes (population 342) in Greece to win 1 nil against the European cup champions from yesteryear.
Their goal was scored by a handy Faroe league player cum plumber/postman/carpenter/fisherman called Edmundsson.

Ranieri is getting sacked in the morning! Their population is a mere 49,000. Good to see our Northern Atlantic Island brethren get a win. Stunning stuff.
The question I ask is, why can't we play like the Faroese?
We have never ever beaten a first seed away from home. Tonight we should envy the football talent of the Faroes.
But I do expect a 2 page dossier/post from Edmundo about how the Faroes are not really a top class team and will have little or no chance of progressing from their caste.
Must be all that whale meat they gobble down
Should be a good blow to the argument that we need pre-qualifying. I've always been opposed to the idea and no-one can claim that the 'minnows' are not at least capable of the occasional major shock.
Is this the first time a top seed has ever lost to a bottom seed when the group contained the maximum possible number of teams? (i.e. including at least one 'minnow')

No it isn't the first time a top seed has lost to a bottom 6th seeded team.
How quickly you suppress the memory of the magnificent 6th seeded iceland's 2 nil win against 1st seeded Norway in Sept 2012.
One could speculate that the difference between Wales and 6th seed is Bale.
Well done to the Faroe Islands, an incredible result.
I am delighted to see Greece finally starting to look like the very ordinary team they are.
I'd say the single biggest factor with Greece's slow demise is with the natural decline of Karagounis who IMO was one of the most talented and influential midfielders in the international game in Europe over a period of 10 or 12 years.
Liechtenstein's turn now - 1-0 away win against Moldova. Not on the same level as last night, but still a great result for them.
San Marino got their first ever point following a draw with Estonia too.
Liechtenstein's away win qualifies as a bona fide expression of uppity minnow power, even if Moldova are no great shakes in world football.
One could point to the win against 4th seeded Scotland and draw against second seeds Belgium in the last group, both achieved without Bale. Although we were actually 6th seeds for that campaign, however it was a freakish anomaly due to the draw being carried out midway through the 2012 campaign when we happened to be below the Faroe Islands in FIFA ranking, which was used for that draw. Had it been done with co-efficients, we'd have been fourth seeds, which is where we've been for the last couple of decades or so.
The idea that we'd be a 6th seed without Bale is rather fanciful, I think.

Minnows like Wales and Malta continued to prosper this evening with some good results. Reformed minnows Iceland lost out in Pils' country, it was far from their best game but i suppose there was a complement of sorts from the Czechs that when they finally took the lead with about 20mins to go, they decided that they should focus on holding on, shutting up shop and celebrated as if they had beaten...... Germany at the final whistle.
Don't forget Malta too, a draw in Bulgaria...
