    Expectations and Realities

At the start of the season the common consensus among fans was that a successful season would consist of a mid-table finish and a good cup run. We’ve achieved both and yet there are some, including me, who feel a sense of disappointment. Why is that? If you cast your mind back to the beginning of the season when we lost our first three matches, the prospect of another season fighting against relegation seemed to be the most likely scenario. But as we all know, we went on an amazing run that culminated on that magnificent night when we stuffed Scumrock to go top of the league. Remember that night? No talk of the season being a failure then. And yet there was a palpable sense of disbelief, as if everyone knew that it couldn’t last, that we were in a false position and that the wheels and the bus would soon bid each other a fond farewell. But still it continued, at one stage of the season we were 2nd in the league and in the FAI Cup semi-final. We were dining with the gods but now, in comparison, it’s as if we out in the freezing cold watching the feast within. And that, I believe, lies at the core of our disappointment in a league position that, at the beginning of the season, we would’ve said was virtually beyond us. When I look at the season in light of what might’ve been and feel the disappointment of dashed dreams I tell myself that we have progressed, and constant progression eventually leads to the fulfilment of ambition. Keep the faith

I think you have probably hit the nail on the head Drogrough - ""tis better to be disappointed to never have been disappointed" - type of thing .....

I suppose you are right - we have progressed and the fact we are disappointed proves we have progressed and now we have to concentrate on next seasons fight.
