Listen, I've always liked Celtic. Always watched their games when I can and always supported them when I've been watching. But every time I see some moron claiming they're irish, it turns my stomach and makes me more and more convinced I should be supporting whoever they play just to see the neanderthal "Eire 32" brigade on the losing side.

I consider myself a nationalist. I also consider myself a fan of Celtic to a certain degree. But those two things have absolutely FÚCK ALL to do with each other, and anyone who pretends otherwise is a fool IMO. So by all means, post about Celtic if you want, but post about them as another team in another country and stop trying to make connections that only exist in the minds of wannabe ra heads with too much time on their hands.

For whats its worth, re the game last night Celtic badly need a few new defenders- Balde is the only one worth keeping. varga and valgaeren are absolutely atrocious and agathe can hardly kick a ball.

Man its been like Bagdad with keyboards round here today, where's Fr. WW to give us a few calming reassuring words?

Anyway can people accept this then, Celtic and Hibs are teams with destinct Irish origins and one of many organisations throughout the world serve to remind people of Ireland's age old problem of immigration. Best to leave it at that (or have I started something worse )

Anyway bit harsh on Varga who has been Celtic's most constant central defender this season. Bobo was better last night but has been having a poor time by his high standards this season. Your right about Valgaeren, he has been poor for some time. Agathe tends to play brilliantly when asked just to defend - stunning in the Nou Camp last season - but looks sus when asked to play as a wing back (he certainly can't cross the ball and last night was actually the first time in ages I seen his crosses regularly beat the first defender) It was a generally poor performace last night.
Where am I now? I'm over here,
I've got those empty pockets and I can't afford a beer.

Hibs were the first team of Irish origin and it ****es me off to see all these uneducated morons jump on the Celtic bandwagon and strut around with their Celtic jersies when really they haven't got a clue. As for the Celtic team, they are muck are present. The football they play is rubbish. Larsson kept them together for as long as he could but he finally fulfilled his ambitions and is now playing in a proper league with a fantastic club. The SPL, apart from the top two is on a par with the Eircom League and this speaks volumes.

Those who are anti celtic - we have pretty much got the jist of your views over the last few years, and very rarely is any new point made.

Can I suggest if you have no interest in a celtic game why don't you just ignore the thread and let the significant number of celtic fans post on the related subject?

    just a thought?
    HERE! HERE!

Eanna if what you claim is ture about no links then why on earth do you support Celtic? Got relatives in East Glasgow have ya or are you just a glory supporter............would explain it as you support city rather than the real historical Cork team

All seriousness.......and I know we've hit this one before........if the Grand Old Team of Belfast Celtic (God bless them) began playing again and once more all of Ireland supported them would you anti-Celts be so quick to dismiss them as a 'yoo-kay' team just because they don't play in the Republic?

Why? Because I think Martin O'Neill is a great manager and I think the noise made by Celtic fans home and away is what everyteam should aspire to- I love clubs with loud, passionate fans.

No. I'd regard them as another irish team, and therefore a rival.

Why would all of Ireland support a team from Belfast? I'm from Cork, I'd still be part of the Rebel Army. I couldn't see any Bohs or Rovers fans going off supporting Belfast Celtic!
In fact they'd probably be hated rivals of ours if they played in the EL and if they played in the IL they'd be irrelevant to us.

Liam, what would make Belfast Celtic better than any other Irish club? So unless you're from Belfast what possible reason would there be for supporting them?
I really have no idea where you're coming from with this!

Thanks for allowing us the privilege of posting about our team. In fact this thread was a simple thread aimed at discussing the match against Rangers on Weds.

No mention of how 'Irish' Celtic are or 'making up' connections that don't really exist.

In fact that rubbish is generally instigated by a fairly repetitive bunch of Eircom League fans on this site who obviously have 'Too much time on their hands'.

As I said earlier, stop creating debates that have been done to death already and were never the intention of the original subject.

Again gross generalisations, this doesn't apply to the vast majority Celtic fans that I know and I get the distinct impression that I mix with far more than you.

Yes well done you are soooo right Hibs were the first club in Scotland of Irish origin, however you will be aware that Irish people went to Glasgow in greater numbers than Edinburgh which inevitably gave them greater pulling power and made them a bigger club.

What have Hibs got to do with it? Their chairman broke with the Irish identity in the early 1900's and even led a campaign to stop the Irish flag being flown at Parkhead.

Tell you what, I'm sure a few of us here would club together and happily fund a trip for you to go to Glasgow and see your new favourite player at his home ground. You can sing your wee song to your heart's content there. And you could be sure of a wonderful welcome from your fellow Prso-worshippers. They'd eat you for breakfast, boy. You see, you'd be just another Feenyun b***ard to many of their fans. Rather than just another bandwagon-jumping a***hole as you clearly are here.

If I had a "local" team, maybe I would. Having opted to leave the three streets either side of where I was born and see the world, the issue is no longer quite as clear. When you grow up and leave Cork (and I don't mean moving to Cobh, Midleton or Fermoy btw), you'll understand a little more about the reasons why people don't always support their "local" team.

Dav-this is the first and hopefully only time I'm ever going to have to say this to ya coz I respect you so much but-your having a laugh!

    almost as many?!??!

I take back my comment if that was sarcasm! Take it from a Corcaigh lad that thousands more support the Celts than do the second best Cork team !

I have so much time for EL teams-I love Rambs so much and they have always been, are and will always be my team but so are Celtic!
Celtic aside-I have so much respect for you Eanna and aintdub for turning out to support your local team-which I do at ever oppurtunity; but you have ruined all of that respect by supporting a (let's face it) loyalist and anti-Irish club just for the sake of demonstrating your dislike for Celtic.
I think that we all accpet that Celtic have Irish roots-no one can deny Brother Wilfrids nationality or his reasons for setting uo Celtic and surely this gives every Irishman or Irishwomen a right to support them.
As PAt said this has been done to death-none of us no matter what we believe are going to shift so why support ra*gers over it? Would you support scumfield if it was them playing us? If you would then whatever, but it shows a bit of disrespect for our own Rebel County. What would Mick Collins think of his fellow Cork folk singing sogns of support for a club tied to Loyali*ts. Yes they are-Johnny A*air in the VIP box, Shares owned by the O*ange order etc. etc.
    PP raises a good point.
LAds let drop it and keep our views of Celtic to ourselves-as has been said this thread is for discussing Wednesday nights game no the history behind the Celtic Football Club!

HEY EVERYONE EVERYONE! Let's all sing songs of support to the next team that plays Real Madrid even if they are bigots or racists! Even if it's Marg*et Tha*chers 5-a-side-team lets cheer them on becuase Eanna supports and team that doesn't play in Erin and this is just plain wrong!

Eh, no. Nationality cannot be such a pedantic matter. Athletico Bilbao play in the Kingdom of Spain and play in La Liga but they consider themselves Basque and not Catalan. If we wanted to be very pedantic they are Spanish but they don't see themselves as such. Aukland Kings did play in the Australian league till it collapsed but it didn't make them Austalian. The nationality of a club is not defined by the league it plays in. I am not saying Celtic are exclusively Irish but you can hardly describe them as British in such black and white terms.

Err yes. And neither would people from Madrid consider themselves as Catalan either. Last time I looked Barcelona was the capital of Catalonia!

Well by that reasoning Chelsea, must be an Irish club as well. Because since they became more prominent (I cant use the word successful as they havent won anything) you tend to bump into a lot more "life long Chelsea fans"

Swansea and Wrexham are welsh i can confirm. Not sure about "Carfif".
So Welsh in fact they will not be allowed to enter european competition if they ever get to win the premiership or FA CUP as the english FA wont allow it.

I can confirm to you as well that Wales is part of Britain.
