    Rugby 2014

August seems as good a time as any to start this.

Ireland women have only gone and become the first Irish 15s team ever to beat New Zealand. Take that, Brian O'Driscoll.

I see Sexton is returning to Leinster on a 4 year deal. Big boost for them and Ireland.

With a big chunk of their best team not there too, whether through injury or rest periods or not being in the country yet. I think Connacht will be very interesting to watch this season.

Dont think they have a big enough panel - that will hurt them in the long run ........

Oh what a game! - the boys from D4 just did not like it near the end - what a hit from Henshaw first on their no 10 and then McSharry on Kearney on the run - 3 wins from 3 but the next one is the big test - away to Glasgow.....

Given there has been previous discussion regarding the relative localisation of top class rugby - news today that Japan and Argentina have been given Super Rugby Franchises to begin with the 2016 competition.

    Story here:

Rough idea of how the competition will pan out here:

Nice to see, hope it's a sucess.

Well done to Ireland and Joe the man! - he done some job to that panel - only 1 lost in 2014 and up to 3rd in the world! - serious respect

Also in the Pro 12 - if anyone would tell me after 8 games in - we (Connacht) would have won 5 of 8 games (should have been 6) and be only 7pts off the top and 1pt behind the D4 boys - i would tell you that you was mad but fair play to Pat Lam and his men!

Now Neil Francais - what crap have you to say now!!!!!

  17. Thanks From:

Wales v SA was a shocker. Last 10 mins was some of the worst intl rugby I have ever seen. Error strewn and thoroughly unconvincing. Both deserved to lose.

Also Jonathan Davies is an awful commentator. So thoroughly biased.

We shouldn't be very worried if this Welsh team tuns up to play us.

    I hate that JD too.

I always thought talk of an England crisis was daft. Everyone loses four on the trot to NZ and in that losing run England got within three points thrice.

It'll be all to play for. I think we're a bit ahead of Wales at this point (I didn't see them today, only the score) but they were ok against both Aus and NZ, and always play WCs well. England have more in their locker I think and we are obviously in very good shape, with strength in depth in most positions. Even Sexton isn't indispensable.

That said, as a rule I usually try not to read too much into the Autumn tests. The Southern Hemisphere sides are at a different stage of their season. Interesting series nonetheless. Argentina, Italy and Scotland all showed encouraging performances. France are France.
