Or he wants to free up some cash so he can bring over some League Two plodders from Birkenhead.

My favoured explanation is that the Rovers board - too proud/scared to sack Croly - have resorted to paying off Coleman to finish fifth so we have at least a 50/50 chance of getting into Europe.

Anyone who thinks it's a good idea to let Ndo go obviously has no clue what he brought to Sligo Rovers. Players on the teams that won cups and the league constantly talked about the inspiration and confidence he gave the squad. He surely should have been facilitated for a move into coaching at the club. If things go badly downhill - and it's hard to see how they won't - our committee and manager have fashioned a fine rod for their own backs.

    Brought, past tense

I'm speculating here but I'd imagine he was on a decent wage earned from past performance not what he has done in the last in the last 6 months, given his age it is unlikely he will return to these levels so a smart move. Sides in this league can't be sentimental about their money

You'd have to question the direction the board have brought the club in since Cook left. Presumably they'd been scouting Baraclough for a while as it was well-known Cook wanted to move to a bigger job, and presumably they'd been scouting Coleman for a while too given how quickly the appointment was made, but there doesn't seem to be any sort of footballing philosophy at work. They've replaced a successful manager playing attractive possession-based football with successive managers who play a completely alien style of football, and what's more confusing is that that style of football is rapidly going out of fashion in this league. It's odd.

Baraclough's football was possession based but I wouldn't have considered it attractive or attacking, it was dour sideways football similar to Croly's Rovers. Baraclough made the side progressively worse & only won the league on the back of the squad Cook built who was unlucky to be up against a very strong Shamrock Rovers at the time, once they imploded post O'Neill Baraclough just held it together enough to win the league but the side had regressed massively by the time he left.

I agree Coleman's style is totally different but he at least has conviction about it & is good at it so will maximise that style & given the length of contracts in LOI its not too hard to radically change your squad

On the last point I do think it's fascinating how open & attacking some of the sides have gone, Cork & Bohs are probably the only throwback to the solid defensive style of 10 years ago, its refreshing how many sides now try to play entertaining football as opposed to result based football

He could yet turn out to be successful, but I wouldn't be anointing him as the messiah too quickly. He's had one really good result out of half a dozen. Wins at home to Drogheda and Limerick should be expected, and the loss to UCD and the performance away to that Lithuanian pub team would have had people calling for the head of another manager.

His style is terrible, he will basically be an English Pat Fenlon, bring results but drive crowds away.

He improved Accrington Stanleys lge position for something like 10 years straight on a lowly budget so I think he has a decent track record

Fans of other clubs won't understand the influence Joey has on and off the pitch. Truly baffling decision. The board have done a brilliant job the last 5 or 6 years but they are really going out of their way to alienate people with the way they handled the Barraclough sacking and letting his replacement get rid of Joey without ever seeing him play

Djilali is is such a waste of talent.

The knock on effect of this is what I'm really worried about. If players are looking for a club next season they'll look at us and go, well they lost a few games last season so got rid of a successful manager and then started letting players go. Will certainly turn players off signing with us.

They've gone all in on Coleman and I for one think they've made a bad call

I doubt it. Players will sign for the highest bidder even if there's a stream of blood trickling from the manager's office.
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.

Limerick have apparently signed Lee Lynch and are also close to getting Zayed, while Rovers are looking to bring in Spanish striker Ruben Perez Ortega. Good to see Pat O'Sullivan is backing Martin Russell with a bit of money. Pats also in for Aaron Greene, which would leave Sligo with 0 strikers. An interesting strategy from Coleman.

Knight in for Athlone according to that piece. I think they'll need more than one Knight to save themselves from relegation

Athlone are only six points off the pace now. Keith Long is doing good things there and has previous with saving Bray. I think Drogs, Bohs and Limerick have enough to be safe though, so it's between them three. I'd fancy them to win a play-off with Shels or Galway.

I backed UCD to win v Derry last week, that went well :-(.I think UCD, when they have their strongest team available are decent, and i expect them to pull away from the relegation/play-off positions.I don't think Athlone have the strength in depth to make up the current points deficit although i'd love to see them do it and more so now with Longford looking likely to make it back to the top division.I'd say Athlone down and Bray to join them after a mighty struggle.Shels also to regain Premier status.

We were talking to Zayed a few weeks back but was told it fell through. He seems to be playing more regularly now for ye so would he really be let go with Kilduff and Sheppard barely featuring?

Word till seems strong down here about Kilduff and Lee Lynch to us till the end of the season.

Also one of the lads asked Folan about the link to pats and he said it was the first he had heard of it.

I'd be sad to see Lee Lynch go without ever getting a real chance, when he's played he's looked like a very good player.

I'd rather see us get rid of Quigley or Kavanagh.
    Here on a technicality.

I thought Kavanagh was brilliant for Pats towards the end of last season. What happened him this season?

I'm a big fan of Kavanagh but for some reason he hasn't got a look in this season. I'm not sure why to be honest

Quigley mentioned in the Mirror (I think) recently that he's considering retiring at the end of the season if he doesn't get back enjoying his football.
