I wouldn't really think it was disingenuous, goalscoring midfielders was just the topic being discussed. I think the fact our defenders are more prolific than most of our midfielders might actually emphasise the point more in a way.

Is it not fair to say that a lot of the forwards with over ten goals played a lot of their time on the wing?

Walters, Long & Doyle might have played some games on the wing but more often than not were up front (usually in a 4-4-2) I would think. Here are the players with over ten goals:

    Robbie Keane 68 14 Oct 1998 31 Aug 2016
    Niall Quinn 21 10 Nov 1987 06 Oct 2001
    Frank Stapleton 20 13 Oct 1976 02 Jun 1990
    Tony Cascarino 19 22 May 1988 11 Oct 1997
    Don Givens 19 08 Jun 1969 30 Apr 1980
    John Aldridge 19 19 Oct 1988 11 Oct 1995
    Shane Long 17 26 May 2007 09 Oct 2016
    Jon Walters 14 11 Nov 2011 11 Jun 2017
    Kevin Doyle 14 15 Nov 2006 03 Sep 2014
    Noel Cantwell 14 25 Nov 1956 22 Feb 1967
    Gerry Daly 13 08 Sep 1976 25 May 1986
    Jimmy Dunne 13 11 May 1930 13 Nov 1938
    Ian Harte 11 15 Jun 1996 08 Jun 2005

With Brady been out of Moldova and no one of the regular starters having any ability on set plays might hourihane come into the mix with his ability to take corners free kicks?

Well it is his responsibility to line up the wall for starters and it should cover the far post, so it is no surprise he cant get to it really as it should not have been possible
to bend it round the wall. Hence he does not have to cover that post I mean if he could get there there is no point in having a wall.

As it happened he got it round the wall with a yard or two to spare. It is ridiculous!

Another man in the wall and that side is covered completely.

Perhaps they underestimated Hourihane's ability .

I do not get it, I mean the wall is supposed to be covering the keepers left post yet the keeper is standing closer to the left post anyway and still can't save it. It is just
unbelievable. Was a good kick though.

Eighth of the season - great to see him back scoring again, particularly more of his special long-range strikes - could be a useful weapon in the Nations League and beyond - let's hope he makes the step up to the Prem next year.

Hourihane is top, with eight, followed by Daryl Murphy with seven, then David McGoldrick with six (plus two EFL Cup goals) McGeady with six, Hogan with five (plus three EFL Cup), O'Brien with four (plus two FA Cup), Maguire with four and Alan Browne with two league goals (plus two FA Cup goals).

Delighted for them both. Whelan's first goal for Villa - happy days
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Whelan's goal at 1:47, Hourihane's at 2:26. Going by these short highlights, Villa rode their luck big time.

You didn’t see Whelan in that sort of position very often for Ireland or for his other clubs either for that matter .

Hourihane is a good man for those balls coming out of the box . He has a good eye for a goal in that position . The Two Lads did good .

Playing with such reckless abandonment of his primary duties, it's no wonder Villa conceded two goals.

See ! Wheelman (misspelt , I’ll leave it ) Went Rogue and see what happens . The Football Gods don’t stand for that sort of thing .

Glenn was really impressed with Snograss’s cross but you could see that deep down he knew the Footballing gods would get him for his impetuiosity .
