I see Whelan didn't celebrate against his former club.

I saw a lot of Owls' supporters complaining about the penalty in the last action of the game. The Villa player was floored. Clear penalty.

I forgot that Glenn played for Sheffield Wednesday . That explains the muted celebrations . He did take the chance of being unusually near the goal

Whelan's goal made it 2-2 in a match Villa would have been thinking they needed to win. I think that might have been as much to do with the non-celebration, but who knows.

Came off the bench late yesterday to assist the winner in the fourth of five minuted added on having been dropped, (and Whelan) after a 1-3 opening weekend away win.

Late winner from him tonight v Yeovil to prevent penalties and possibly a very messy post match interview for his manager.

Great free kick against Blackburn (some swerve ignoring the dodgy wall):

It was a thing of beauty alright, nearly as pleasing on the eye as Darragh Lenihan totally clearing out Jack Grealish with a late bodycheck!

He's miles behind. Good goal mind you and good press to be included. Really impressed with how he has solidified his place as they have improved. Still don't think villa have enough to go up.

He and Browne clearly most likely to get bought out of the championship but so few players make that jump these days. I wonder if there is a site that tracks transfers from CH to EPL.. I bet it's a declining number.

Dunno, I think Villas improvement under the new manager without him having had a shopping window suggests they aren't far away, not a million miles, that and 0-3 away wins at Derby and Middlesbrough suggest they have the level, or close to, Leeds on Saturday will tell us more. Hourihanes central role in the improvement is encouraging, yes. If they have a good January sales it could be on.

I think Robinson is more likely than either of those to get a transfer up to be honest. And plenty Villa fans looking at his form, *****d off he was their player but deemed not good enough in favour of several fancy haircut foreigners who landed them in the Championship.

The build up there is the football equivalent of setting up a drop at goal

It's a cracking goal and he really changed the tempo for villa when he came on with his passing and work rate.

They seemed to play 4 very attacking midfielders with just Whelan deep. I assume they wanted to ensure a home win to take away. Not sure if McGinn, good and all as he is, was involved in more Villa goals than Hourihane this year.

Right, I've tossed 3 pages of off topic and rulebreaking posts in the bin and I've reopened the thread. If it starts again I'll bin the rest and I'll start doling out suspensions and bans. Get back on topic please.

Gets a crack at the big time next year as Villa win the play-off final: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48331145. Brings our number of midfielders in the EPL to five - six if Glenn Whelan can defy the odds and hold down a first team place (as long as Arter re-establishes himself at Bournemouth). Also improves the chance of Scott Hogan playing in the top tier, either at Villa or through a return to the Blades

Definitely good news for Ireland and Hourihane, and as for Whelan - the comeback kid? Always thought he did a better unobserved job in midfield than a lot of his detractors did - 'marking' space, cutting off runs, the kind of unrewarding stuff that allows team mates to do their jobs. Not sure Hogan will make it into either club's 25 man squad, but we live in hope.
Hello, hello? What's going on? What's all this shouting, we'll have no trouble here!
