Mark Yeates M b.1985

I see 19 year old Irish prospect Mark Yeates played the full 90 minutes for Spurs today. Got pretty good reviews for his preformance aswell. He could be a good prospect for us, I've heard alot about him and how good he is. With Spurs letting a fair few people go over the summer, next season he could play a few games. Apparently, Elliot was in line to start for Man City aswell but was just not quite fit enough, not sure how true that is.

Also of note, Kelly played again. If Carr goes, he'll probably be their first choice right back next season, it's always good to have other options I suppose.

It was also Dennis Irwins final game in professional football, which is sad to say really. Also, Keane got on the scoresheet in his return to Wolves.

Elliot was out with a knee complaint ,he was kept out of the team that played in the Manchester Senior Cup for the reserves midweek, in the hope he'd be fit for the weekend

Fowler recovered enough from his own injury to get on the bench, so even if Elliot was fit, it's doubtful he'd have made the bench

I'd heard Keegan was going to either start him or give him alot of time on the pitch, he probably would have left Fowler out completley as it was a meaningless match anyway.

Seing the highlights from the Spurs match Yeates set up Keanes goal, it was a very good assist too.

I just had a look at the Spurs site and he was voted man of the match there

Mark Yeates ---- 40%
Robbie Keane ---- 25%
Jermain Defoe --- 15%
Jamie Redknapp -- 4%

He appeared to have played in right midfield but he is listed as a stirker on the
Spurs site, I assume that is right of centre as opposed to right-wing.
Anyway its great he is right sided as we have more than enough talent
on the left for the forseable future. (I would have died if he turned out
to be another left winger

)

I don't know the situation at Spurs and whether he got his place through
merit or more because of injury but judging by his m-o-t-m rating
he should be seeing more first team action hopefully.

I do remember hearing Hoddle saying recently that he had some good Irish prospects pushing for a first team place though.

He looks a good prospect though.

Mark Yeates is the son of Sean Yeates (former player of Shels, ROvers and a couple of others and a big Pats fan from Ballyfermot)

He was as talented a footballer as I've seen but drink ruined him and he died very young about a year ago. I played for an intermediate side with Yeatesy (well I was Saturday and he was Suinday but still...) and his son used to watch him play. At 12/13 he was could do things that none of the teams players could do.

He had a bit of a tough time at the start of his Spurs career but Les Ferdinand looked after him and thought him how to be a professional (dieting, staying away from pubs/clubs etc) Ferdinand even attended Sean's funeral. According to everyone who's seen him this guy has the potential to be a huge huge star

Mark Magee had him on loan at Brighton and rated him very highly. He was recalled by Spurs as he was needed as first team cover. Bit confused as to what position he plays. Pretty sure he plays up front for the Irish underage teams but can't hurt him getting a few games on the wing. More chance of getting into that appalling Spurs midfield than their forward lin anyway.

His fathers name was Stephen, who played intermediate football up until his death aged 40 I think. He was involved in a bit of horse play and accidentlally knocked his head off the ground. He was released from hospital but suffered further headaches and returned the next day. However he never recovered and died the following day, leaving a partner and four young children. Tragically he wasn't insured ad a fund was set up for his dependents.

Delighted to see his son doing so well.

David Pleat has explained why Mark Yeates was kept in his 'back pocket' until the season's finale at Wolves on Saturday.
The Irish midfielder impressed at Molineux and capped a typically bright performance by setting up Robbie Keane's opener.

Jermain Defoe ensured a happy ending to the campaign with the second in the second half as we ran out 2-0 winners.

"Mark was splendid, a little Irish imp and he'll be fine," said David afterwards. "He's a good player and will keep his feet on the ground.

"He has lovely touch and control and I now know he won't be fazed.

"Some people might ask why we didn't put him in earlier but we had to keep him in the back pocket all season because you are always under pressure to win games.

"You have to play the players at the right time.

"The wonderful thing for me is that they have got a chance. I'm sure the fans will have enjoyed watching him play at Wolves and I hope he'll go on and play more games for the club."

Spurs young midfielder/striker Mark Yeates, made his debut for Swindon Town last week.
Does anyone know if this is a permanent move or a loan.
If its a loan, how long for ?

He's there on a 6 week loan I think. His manager, Andy King (the guy who used to play for Everton?) said he was outstanding at the weekend.

Anybody know what the story with Mark Yeates of Spurs. I see he came on as a substitute for Spurs reserves last night. Was he involved with Don Givens U21s recently. I also thought he was to be loaned out to Swindon for 3 months.

... fair enough, it was only against Mauritius but they all count! With Finnan in the Champion's League Final, Keane outplaying Vieira in the FA Cup final, John O'Shea getting a start and playing solidly - not to mention Duffer coming back without and problems - it is good to see Robbie on the scoresheet too. Hopefully everyone's coming nicely to the boil in time for the Israel game...
