Back on the whole nightclub thing.i was in Bondi Beach last Sunday and what a spot.super talent(on both sides of the counter-mmmmm hot pants on d bar staff ladies).€3 drinks for the night as well.(can't ask for more.made a change from Club M in temple bar d night before where prices were unreal bad.(good music though )

the lads i were with were there on the friday as well and said the talent was unbelievable that night.1 sorta strange thing though.usually there would be a good crowd outside the club afterwards,but every1 was gone before we knew it.What do others who are there more regularly think of the spot?

Cosmo, Cosmo, Cosmo. Its in Stilorgan where Blakes used to be, its across from the leisureplex. Haven't been myself in a few months because I went there one Saturday night and it was full of little scumbags, has anyone else found this with the place? I think Saturday night tends to be its weakest night. Thursdays and Sundays are probably its best nights, but as I say I'm open to correction on this one cos I haven't been in a while. The best night I've ever seen in it was the night Ireland beat England in the Six Nations, the 92 was full from about 10pm and all the spillage ended up in Bondage-what a night.

Grafton St/George's St area is where it's at these days. Although that may be explained by demographics more than anything else. To me though a night in Rathmines/etc sends shivers down my spine. Unless it's to finish off in the wine bars or something.

Unfortunately, due to academic and work commitments I have been unable in recent times to keep Team Vito’s loyal following up-to-date on the season’s happenings. As most readers of this report will be aware, the season ended just over three weeks ago with a testimonial for player manager, Don Vito who retired as a member of the playing staff but will remain as head coach. Don picked up a serious injury on September 16th 2003 and has never recovered. Earlier this year, Don came to the decision that he could no longer continue in his supporting role for the team. The team physio played an important role in Don’s decision. There’s no doubt that Don will continue to have a huge influence on the careers of the players at his club. He has already rediscovered his love for gaelic games. A little like Niall Quinn, Don has resumed his participation in junior football, as well as attending his adopted county’s championship hurling games. I’m sure I speak for all players and supporters in wishing Don the best of luck in his coaching career.

As for Don’s testimonial, it was a star-studded event. JoeSemi and $Leon$ could not attend. However, they were replaced by two guest players, the Rat (no relation to Rats, the former star of Soviet Union football) and Doyler (no relation to Kevin Doyle). Both players added much-needed grit to a team which was growing lacklustre. Nonetheless, it was The Green Hen who stole the show. The player who in his own words, is seeking greener hen pastures, left his career threatening injury in the shade to score the winning goal. It was a well-deserved goal for the Hen and a much-needed boost to his confidence.

Don Vito has already indicated that he hopes to build his new team around the dual strike-force of The Green Hen and the prolific Dillo. However, Don’s greatest stumbling block may be holding onto Dillo, winner of last season’s golden boot award. A little like the former Evertonian, Tommy Gravesen, people are only now discovering the true class of this consistently brilliant striker. After starting the pre-season with a goal against a touring youth team from London, Dillo followed up with an outstanding goal in Rathmines just over a week ago. Suddenly, the team’s Captain Fantastic looks set for a lucrative move to a club on the Wicklow / Kildare border. It looks as tough Dillo will enter into contract negotiations this week with the legal secretary of the suitor club. It remains to be seen whether Dillo accepts the terms on offer. There is no doubt that it could be a gut-wrenching decision for a player who’s entering his fifth season at the club.

Nonetheless, it should be remembered that contract negotiations are nothing new for Team Vito to contend with in 2005. In April of this year, $Leon$ looked set to sign for a new club in Kilmacud. After protracted negotiations, $Leon$ decided to remain with the club he loves, citing his great love for the team base in Ardee Court as the main reason. Two weeks previous, I, TheJamaicanP.M. signed for a loan spell with a club in the west of Ireland. This came in the aftermath of top performances with an international selection in Barcelona. Most people on that tour will recall one player’s brace of goals, which bore huge similarity to the goals scored in February 2004 by Dolby126 in . . . well Dolby126!! However, I was satisfied with my performances and I would like to dismiss the suggestions from some quarters that Don Vito sent me on loan as a disciplinary measure for the well-documented event involving the Hen and I outside a fast food restaurant in Rathmines. Indeed, I would contend that I have been the unfortunate victim of some unsavoury incidents in recent times. In the aftermath of Don Vito’s recent testimonial, I had a water bottle thrown at me as I left the ground. I can only assume that the perpetrator of the crime was unhappy with my recent loan move. I would also like to thank Dillo for coming to my assistance on that occasion. It reminded me of Zvonimir Boban’s heroics in 1990.

Much has been made of the recent transgressions of certain members of the club. In early June, Dillo was accused of an unsavoury incident in the bar of Shelbourne Park. The involvement of his agent, Harry Molloy (no relation to the mechanic in Fair City) in the alleged incident was seen as a possible stimulant for it. Indeed, some observers have suggested that Molloy is the man pushing Dillo into signing for this new club. Clearly, Molloy has a major bearing on Dillo’s career. Regardless of the personnel involved, it is evident that Don Vito will have to stamp out the indiscipline if the club is to succeed in the coming season.

However, the question on everyone’s lips is whether Don will welcome back the team’s prodigal son, JoeSemi. Failing to fulfil his undoubted potential, JoeSemi has followed in the footsteps of Ronnie O’Brien and made the move to America. The talented striker has come in for criticism from many quarters over his failure to produce the goods on a consistent basis and his disruptive influence on fellow striker, Dillo. Nonetheless, there were signs that JoeSemi was in a rich vein of form prior to his departure, scoring a couple of goals against underage opposition in the southeast of the country. One can only hope that the US scene has a similar influence on JoeSemi as it had on Dolby126, winner of the golden boot in the 2003-04 season.

In conclusion, I would like to send my regards to the gaffer, the physio and all the playing staff. I wish them all the best as they move the team training ground from Rathmines to Milltown for the new season. Some cynics have suggested that the former Shamrock Rovers venue is a suitable home for the league’s most indisciplined team. However, I would plead with the team to disregard such senseless comparisons. I hope to return to first team action in the first week of September. Don has suggested that I resume my playing career in defence. My recent injury problems, added to the current wealth of attacking options means that a defensive role is perhaps more suited to my strengths. Finally, I will endeavour to keep all fans of the club updated on the goings-on in Team Vito over the coming season.

Looks like Team Vito's club captain, Dillo could be about to make a shock move to a club in East Belfast. Talk of the move has come about very suddenly. Dillo's agent, Connie Molloy has made no secret of the fact that he would like to see Dillo move to pastures new. It has been suggested that the deal may go throgh as quickly as David Connolly's move to Wigan, although it should be noted that Dillo has scored many more goals than Connolly in the last 4 years.

The team has gone off the radar in the last few months due to work and financial commitments but it doesn't mean they've gone away! One of the team members is in talks with some people in Galway about arranging a friendly game in and around Eyre Square. Details should follow in next week's Longford Leader, weather permitting!

There has been serious disruptions in the last while but time is a great healer and the lads are ready to descend on Germany in June with all the grit and determination you'd associate with a young Irish side. There'll be a nice blend of aggression, flexibilty and style in this revamped outfit. Rumours are circulating that Dolby126 will start up front where it is hoped he can create chances for the predatory instincts of the Green Hen, who has laid all his eggs in one basket of late. It is said that, "form is temporary and class is permanent" however; and there is little doubt that 'The Hen' will spread his wings once more.

The new caretaker manager will be announced soon and word has it that a certain member of parliament could be given the nod in Don Vito's absence. Make no mistake, Don will be sorely missed. The tactical nous he has acquired over the last few years has proved invaluable to some of the more inexperienced and unstable members of the team. His loss will only be realised when the heat of the German sun saps every ounce of energy out of these 'Boys in Green'.

There have been reports that one of the stars in last year's team has opened talks in Athlone. The player himself said that "he couldn't tie up loose ends", and that another team member put pay to what may have meant a move down by the banks of the Shannon. Common sense didn't prevail, and the deal is now dead in the water unfortunately.

Rumours and falsifications are being played down on a weekly basis by management. It must be reiterated that time is the healer in all of this and petty squabbles shouldn't detract from what has been a rollercoaster few years for the team. These likely lads will rise and shine again without doubt, but the question on everyone's lips is, when?

Diets are being monitored by some newly employed nutrionists, and most players are reaping the extensive rewards. Form will tell a lot in the next month - and should dictate whether this story has run its course or not. I sense there's more to be written.

P.S If Dolby126 can sparkle then it should be a super occasion........ provided the springs stay intact

Have to say i agree with JoeSemi in that "The team has gone off the radar in the last few months due to work and financial commitments...." but by jaysus that doesn't mean we've gone away! Id like to think of it more as 'the calm before the storm' and boy will we back with a bang...or a few of them as far as the trevster is concerned ;-)!!!
Theres talk of a Galway friendly over this May bank holiday weekend and maybe even a stop-over at Bernie's at McGiffs to break the journey and top up on much needed liquids before the 'game'!!
With Germany just around the corner it is vital that we get together and start our preparations...as one great philosopher once said "fail to prepare, prepare to fail" and all concerned know failure is simply not an option! To calm fears down of the hen "laying all his eggs in the one basket" i would like to state that i see myself as more of a cuckoo who has been known to ramble on occasions and lay eggs in whichever nest presents itself!! Of course the cuckoo only comes once a year though so thats where the similiarities end!!!!!
The Trevster has already announced that he is not going to Germany for the football...but im sure whatever it is hes after, Germany will have to offer!!!
Of course Vito will be missed, but no doubt he will be kept informed of proceedings.
With JoeSemi in a rich vein of form of late one just hope it will carry through to Germany and of course we all know he has always "performed" well on foreign soil...USA 2005 and Liverpool on many occasions!!
A concern for me personally was the language barrier but that was over come when Dillo booked his seat on the plane!! "Wie geht es dein vater?" he ensures us all will be more than enough to get us by!!! There is also talk that a song may be written to celebrate this mouthwatering occasion, a bit like Christy Moore's "Joxer goes to Stuttgart".... Local favourites "Golddust" and "Patsy and the Keynotes" have been mentioned but there is nothing concrete yet!!
The Jamaican PM rounds up the group (unless of course of course a certain individual gets out of the traps in time, trap number 2 to be precise, and gets on board!!) and one hope that in Vitos absence the PM's experience can keep control on proceedings...a bit like the night away to FC PortaVia where he cooled things down with water (or a water-like substance!!!!!) when things were getting hot!!!!!
Regarding the diets JoeSemi, i heard from one individual a while back that the hamburger actually originated in Hamburg (believe it or believe it not ;-) ) so that will be enough nutrition for us on our travels!!

In a week that saw the official England football team commence their intensive preparation for the World Cup 2006 championships at the world-renowned Algarve resort, our very own JoeSemi has decided to chose the other part of the Iberian penninsula with a week long training stint in sunny Spain. It has also served as an opportunity for the Team Vito man to rejoin with former Liverpool Great, Josemi who decided to return to Malaga after a very successful stint with the reds.
Meanwhile back in Dublin, squad members The Green Hen, Dolby126, Dillo and late call-up, the promising "Johann" underwent intense training in the late hours of both friday and saturday night. Don Vito was present on both nights and quietly assessed the current form of the squad. The stability Vito brings to this squad of players is so hugely important and his absence in such a major tournament could indeed prove very costly. Having said that however, there is still every reason to feel confident and with the Dolby on fire, this team may well be in Germany come late June! The aggression in Dolby's game was never more apparent than on friday night last, and it is clear to both management and players that this is a man with a point to prove.
The reliable Jamaican PM, as always, will adopt a professional approach and there's no doubt that he'll be 100% fit come Sunday three weeks. The PM has spent some valuable time working under the guidance of well known Galway Utd physio "The Rabbit" and his assistance may well be required again in the coming weeks.

With just days to go to the biggest tournament in the history of Team Vito, anticipation is reaching fever pitch. For the players and supporters, it represents five years of hard work. The big question many pundits are asking is whether this tournament has come too late for what is now an aging team. The team’s manager and former captain, Don Vito is adamant that this will not be the case. Vito, who has been compared to the legendary Leeds manager Don Revie (probably because of his name), was quoted in this week’s edition of the Wexford People as saying: “I think in previous years we suffered due to a high number of games earlier in the season. Our players were often left feeling jaded when the big games came along. This season has been different. We’ve had less games, our players are fresher and they’re all chomping at the bit…at the end of the day.” Nonetheless, the fact remains that Team Vito has a number of veterans in its ranks. The youngest player, The Green Hen turned 22 a fortnight ago, which means he’s no spring chicken. Despite a lot of criticism from the media, Don Vito has resisted the temptation to sign younger players.

The World Cup squad was finalised some weeks ago. In addition to the usual suspects, the relatively unknown “Johann” was handed a dream call-up to the squad. When questioned on this surprise inclusion, Don Vito spoke enthusiastically about the new recruit: “This is a player that I’m excited about. He came to our attention in recent months. Dolby126 was very impressed with his performances and came to me to say that Johann was available on a free transfer. We put in a bid immediately and he jumped at the chance to sign for us.” The unassuming Laois man has been compared by some to the Swiss midfielder Johann Vogel. Like Vogel, he sits deep in midfield and distributes the play in an efficient if less than spectacular manner. When questioned on recent suggestions that he has never seen Johann play, Vito replied: “That is true but I think the fact that Johann will be such an unknown quantity, even to ourselves, will actually work in our favour.”

Arising out of Vito’s absence due to professional reasons, I TheJamaicanP.M. will take over as caretaker manager for the World Cup. There’s no doubt I have huge boots to fill but I’ll be following Don’s instructions to the letter. However, it was the selection of the squad’s captain which proved to be the most difficult decision for Don. Taking into account the experience of the players in the squad, he chose to hand the captaincy to JoeSemi. The undoubtedly talented but sometimes fickle JoeSemi, will be taking part in his third World Cup, as well as offering a wealth of European experience. The usual captain and golden boot winner in recent seasons, Dillo has been given the responsibility of being vice-captain. When questioned on his new role Dillo stated, “I think I can have a huge influence on the squad as vice-captain. If I’m as successful as Robbie Fowler was as vice-captain to Jamie, I’ll be happy…If I’m as successful as Robbie Keane was to Ledley, I’ll be even happier.”

The onus will certainly be on Dillo to produce the goods after what has been a poor season by his standards. Dillo has complained about injuries and bad health in recent weeks, but in a similar way to the Rangers and T&T defender Marvin Andrews, Dillo has the requisite mental strength to play through the pain barrier. With more appearances than any other member of the Team Vito squad, it is imperative that he stamps his authority on the competition. A number of his team-mates have already pointed to his excellent linguistic skills and there is no doubt that Dillo will be put forward as a representative for this team in Germany.

Dillo’s strike partner is likely to be the prolific Dolby126. After a year that was blighted by injury, the charismatic Dolby has returned to action in style. Despite recent transgressions and his propensity for acts of indiscipline, the team have placed huge responsibility on Dolby’s shoulders by asking him to lead the line. Similar to the Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba, Dolby takes a direct, no-nonsense approach and this should prove dividends. Writing in his column last week, Dolby stated: “I’m going in search of the holy grail.”

It is intended that Dillo and Dolby will be provided with ammunition from the wings by The Green Hen and JoeSemi. The Green Hen, who was recently compared to Benfica’s Simao Sabrosa for his dynamic wing play, was philosophical about his aspirations for the World Cup: “Some people think we’re going there on a wing and a prayer. However, I think once we take flight on Sunday, we’ll be fine. As for the action itself, I refuse to be a mere hurler on the ditch. I believe in jumping the ditch and after last Saturday night, I know Dolby and JoeSemi feel the same way.” After a week of rest and recuperation in Saipan (or was it Spain?), there is no doubt that JoeSemi is raring to go. The player who is affectionately known as “Jo” has been likened by many to Frankie Hejduk of the United States. A bit like Hejduk, Jo found the going tough on the European scene but prospered when he moved Stateside. When asked about his potential role in this World Cup, Jo simply replied: “Looking forward to it I am.”

It’s clear that things are progressing nicely for Team Vito. The last warm-up game might have ended in a scoreless draw last weekend, but there is no doubt that players were holding themselves in reserve for the big one. Nonetheless, it proved a worthwhile exercise with the players being very well looked after by their hosts. It is evident that this is an exciting time for myself and the other members of Team Vito. I have no doubt that everyone on foot.ie will wish us well as we go in search of glory.
