Athlone would be a much bigger loss to the league than Monaghan. hope they pull through.

Interesting to see how this pans out, I presume they'll come to some arrangement.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

Just give st. Mels a lick of paint and bolt down a few seats
But who else would pay rent on it anyway?
Apparently it's only €4k that's owed in rent. So I heard at our match at the weekend anyway. Presumably it'll be paid by the time it has to be paid.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
Never realised the lad that cleared the debt did it and was charging Athlone rent. What is the rent on the ground per game? Is it reasonable and Athlone have just let it build up?
Did they not announce that as a donation at the time or am I thinking of a different cash injection in recent years?

Nothing more than a publicity stunt if you ask me. Very convenient that it comes the same day as the club statement announced 'Thanks for the great support against Sligo Rovers'. Cunning marketing move in my view.

This would be a lot more interesting if he mentioned when the rent was due.In a letter to this week's Westmeath Independent, Declan Molloy says the club have so far paid no rent on the facility this year.
I was thinking that myself and would be a hell of job to have kept it from fans and out of the press. I am always sceptical of people benefacting money to a LoI club as there is always self interest and strings attached. 'Investors' in clubs quickly dip in to take money back when European money etc comes in. Our previous owner saved us no doubts but in the end he hung on to his cash cow to almost the bitter end, running money making events and charging costs to the club - pure profit to him.
All sounds very odd and the wiping out of half a million in debt out of a love for a club sounds even more too good to be true.
He didnt do it for the love of the club. He isnt even a supporter. As far as im aware his father used to go the games, but he doesnt, and he sold alot of land, and had to put certain amounts of money somewhere or it was going on tax. Not 100% sure of the story, and maybe im not allowed put that on here. As far as i know he has no say in what goes on in the club and is not anything to do with the club committee whatsoever. He is the majority shareholder in Athlone Town Stadium LTD. Hopefully the truth comes out soon by the club. Been told there is nothing to worry about at all though.
