Watched the Crues game myself and yes Ekranas are poor. But they are effectively a U23 team and it showed. Crusaders have a reasonable chance of getting by BP in the next round.

Very flattering 4-0 win for us last night. Rogers made a great save to tip a free kick onto the post about mid-way through the first half and Keane scored a great goal just going into injury time to give us a bit of breathing space. Rogers then made another good save in between the goal and the half time whistle. We were total tripe in the first half. If Barracloughs team had performed like that they would have been booed off. We weren't much better in the second half until they had a lad get 2 yellow cards in a couple of minutes for 2 fouls on Aaron Greene (they were filthy) and then once we got the second should have scored more then the 4 we got as they just fell apart really.
Rosenburg will hammer us

I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
That was the first time Dundalk have won both legs of a Euro tie in 23 ties, and I think only our sixth time to progress (though 4 of those progressions were in full competition as distinct from qualifiers)
Nice to be in a situation where we can rest players in Europe ahead of a more important league game and still win with ease.
Great night for the league, second round will be entirely different. I predict one draw and seven defeats to come in Europe this season.
Yes. Rosenborg this year have done it. But you need a low national coefficient and a very good club one. So basically you're looking at a team that excels in Europe, and probably dominates the domestic league as a result. We don't really have that (Pat's fans can keep quiet here)
Also, if an unseeded team beats a seed, they take that club's coefficient for the next round. If Dundalk beat Hajduk Split, for example, their coefficient will become Hajduk's one, and if that's over half-way up the rankings (which I think it would be), then Dundalk would be seeded in the third round. Ditto Sligo v Rosenborg, but as Shakhtor Solygorsk are the lowest-ranked team Derry (or any non-seed) could have drawn, they can't be seeded for the third round.
Worth noting that I genuinely think Dundalk have a chance against Hajduk (albeit a slim one). If they win, they're seeded in the third round. Win that (probably less than 50/50 - Dundalk would still be out-ranked wise) and you get a seriously big tie in round 4. Not going to qualify for the groups of course, but there's a very slim chance that Dundalk could afford a new stand after this campaign. But it's the best chance an LoI side has had in may years.
lads i thought if say you were seeded into the second round that you do get the money for the first round also?? can someone clarify that once and for all???!!

You only get participation money for the round you play in. So if, due to the co-efficient you slot in at QR 3 you do not get anything extra for skipping the first 2 rounds. If a side is good enough to be n QR 3 there would greater financial reward for starting in QR 1 and winning, QR 2 and win again you would get roughly twice the money than going straight in to QR 3.
Seeding in theory just improves your chance a winning the round as you may be up against weaker opposition.

thats an awful system!! if your good enough to get say seeded to round 2 then that should be an incentive and you should get the money from round 1 also. basically our clubs are better off trying to put everything into europe as you get jack sh1t for winning the league. progressing in europe is the only way...

And Shams got 1m when they qualified for the Group Stages
Well, I suppose awarded progression or "receiving a bye" (for want of a better description) into a later round is seen as incentive enough in terms of enhancing the chances of further progression rather than risking earlier-round elimination.
Here are the round-by-round prize-money totals, for what it's worth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Eu...ue#Prize_money
Am I correct in thinking that prize-money is awarded based on simple participation in each respective qualifying round rather than on progression through that round? So, Aberystwyth, say, would have been awarded €120,000 as well as Derry for their participation in the first qualifying round, whilst Derry will also receive another €130,000 on top for participating in the second qualifying round?
- First qualifying round: €120,000
- Second qualifying round: €130,000
- Third qualifying round: €140,000
- Play-off round elimination: €150,000
- Base fee for group stage: €1,300,000
- Group match victory: €200,000
- Group match draw: €100,000
- Group winners: €400,000
- Group runners-up: €200,000
- Round of 32: €200,000
- Round of 16: €350,000
- Quarter-finals: €450,000
- Semi-finals: €1,000,000
- Losing finalist: €2,500,000
- Winners: €5,000,000

I think for EL it's €120k for qualifying then €130 per round thereafter, obviously group stages pay more, but not sure any our teams will be seeing that anytime soon.
I read Dlk's travel costs were 38k for Lux and now 68k for Crotoia, add in gate of say 30k last night, then potentially €40-45k next week and it will be a good bit of business when the EL comes in. Then again no home league game for a bit so I'm sure the big gate receipts will be more than welcome, as obviously Season Tickets are not valid for these games.
Edit, just saw above post re prize money
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), only Irish club to win a game / points in Europa League Group Stage (2016).
From my expansive Championship Manager/Football Manager knowledge, participation isn't required to get the qualification money. Hence, if a team only joins in round 2, they'd still get the qualification bonus that round 1 winners get. I don't know if there's also a participation element to the money handed to teams but I guess that would be something they'd miss out on as they're obviously not participating.
