I've seen Dunne make the same mistake dozens of times but, you're right, he has nothing to prove because a few mistakes don't define a player. I'm just saying the same logic should follow for any player, unless it's clearly a chronic flaw in his game he will never change and which he can't compensate for in other ways.
Don't get me wrong. Far be it from calling Keogh a terrible player - and I may have said something similar to that effect when I first commented on him - but I have seen nothing that makes him stand out from the likes of McCarthy, St Ledger, O'Dea, Duffy or Pearce. His performance against Serbia showed that there may be work to do to get him acclimatised to a higher standard. Almost 28, another season in the Championship and players like Duffy, Gunning, Pearce and other fringe centre halves et al. having time on their side - I'm not sure Keogh has that. It's a big step up playing Germany, Poland and even Scotland in pressure cooker games similar to the one he played in today. Frankly, I would be bricking it if he did play.

I bet anything it really is either Sean St Ledger or Crosby's second account.

One thing that obviously stands out is his ability to pass the ball, which nobody you mentioned with the possible exception of Duffy has. Like I said, I'm not touting him for a spot but I think he has the ability to make it there.

Just read the match report on the Guardian. Couple of comments below it from Derby fans (presumably) that caught my eye:

Chin up Keogh, you have been immense all season.
If anything we had too much possession but really feel for Keogh who doesn't deserve to be the fall guy.

"Once again Richard Keogh has caused another goal against, hes got away with it all season with his nervous style off play because of a superb team around him; now for all his good points its caught up with him big time."

"I do like Keogh but I would sign a new CB next season to play alongside Bucko. Keogh is sometimes prone to mistakes.

Feel sorry for him today though."

A couple of negative comments I seen too. At the end of the day, you can only judge what's put in front of you.

My sister works in the area so I know all about local pride, the passion and the way they support their club.

They won't get on Keogh's back.

Leyton Orient v Rotherham about to start in League One. Mooney starts for Orient, Frecklington for Rotherham.

Orient 2-0 up going into half time. Mooney was quiet for the first half hour or so as he was isolated out on the left, but since moving inside he's been involved a lot more and held the ball up well for the second goal.

What a game! 2-2 now. Alex Ravell with a ridiculous volley from 40 yards.

That is a bit of a ****er. Can't fathom why they took off Mooney halfway through extra time - he was still everywhere, winning headers and he's a great penalty taker.

Though the penalties Leyton missed were poor. Short runs up, little power.

Wait, you guys have a five-page thread for fringe Ireland players in the lower-league play-offs? THAT. IS. ADORABLE.

I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Pretty much 95%-100% of Derby fans on their forums have been very appreciative and supportive of Keogh and want him to continue as captain.
I'd fancy their chances of getting promoted next season.
