Not sure why people are arguing Dennehy didn't deserve to be sent off. He completely took him out, nowhere close to the ball.

The view from Soccer Republic wasn't the best, but it certainly appears as if he went studs first into his right leg. Ref had a better view than the cameras. Had to be a red.

Dennehy's red card was ridiculous. It was a deliberate foul and deserved a yellow card, but it wasn't serious foul play, it wasn't from behind, and he wasn't the last man.

Outrageous goal by Forrester. Jason Byrne's on Friday was sublime.
Didn't look a penalty for Dundalk at Athlone. It wasn't a perfect shoulder to shoulder challenge but not enough of a deviation to think it called for a penalty.

LOL @ the Cork fans. Put away the tinted glasses. He took him out of it.

If he went studs first onto that guys leg/knee, its absolutely serious foul play and it absolutely deserved a red card. Not being the last man or from behind is irrelevant. At some point football fans are going to realise that stud first challenges are no longer acceptable.

Now, if he jumped in but went ahead of the leg and collided with the shin, that's probably just yellow worthy. I can't say with a 100% certainty because the tv angle wasn't clear. But the ref had a much better view than I had, so I'm inclined to trust his judgement.

It's not just Cork fans saying it.

Our forum seems to be 50/50 definite red vs should have been a yellow.

Great result to come away with the win after being down to 10 for most of the game.

Well if that is the consensus of the forum, you have no right arguing that it definitely wasn't a red!

    Poor Athlone!

I'll have to take the offside back anyway; Hughie Douglas on the line was playing both on.

But that tackle looks even worse close up. Really indefensible. Even comes across with the wrong leg to add to the clumsiness. Genuine leg-breaker.

    Anyways, to Derry.

It wasn't a pen but then they should have had a definite pen that wasn't given so ye can't really complain.

Stu, you do realise that there has to be two players between the attacker and goal. Your goalkeeper is off his line.

I did actually, but I completely forgot! Thanks. Blatant offside so. I suppose they're interfering by virtue of being in the way of the defender clearing the ball easier? Cos you could argue the ball was going in anyway.

I remember a similar incident when Southampton were in the FA Cup semi a few years back; the linesman gave offside and I was confused, but the co-commentator explained it almost straight away. I remember thinking it was one of the few times I'd ever heard a co-commentator add something useful. And then forgot about it until you reminded me!

He may well be, but Dave Ryan is conclusively proving NOT to be a goalkeeper.
I wouldn't question his starting position as he was int he right place in relation to where the ball was at that moment.
However he is six foot five and should have moved his feet quicker to get back to it.
The balls was in the air a long time, he should have saved it, although it was a very good strike, the odds were in favour of the 'keeper.

Forrester's second goal was way better than his first (which was a great effort, but ruined aesthetically by the laughable miscues which preceded it).

    Drogheda need Schlingerman back quickly.

Quick thinking and good execution by Forrester but a better goal keeper would have caught it easily.

Ryan was very poor for Billy Dennehys free kick at the Cross on Friday. He gets set, then moves too early in the wrong direction and so cant get back across to stop the shot.

I think we can come to the conclusion that any sub keeper in the LOI is going to be poor.

Better to stick some random outfield player in goal, as some have recently proved!
