well that terryland is gone for good now. see
www.galwayunitedfc.ie.
As always the home crowd depended on how well the team were doing, so in saying that obviously there was a bad turn out this year, like many others. On average i would guess maybe 500-600 per match.
jaysus , that is very low indeed. For a catchment area of 120k or so that is really abismal. Some serious cash needs to be injected into the club by the sounds of it. Pity the Likes of Supermac or some other local entrepreneur has no interest in soccer.
saw Salthill Devons setup ....looks fantastic ...fairplay to them!
Away support is never good, the usual 20-30 always go, bar now that there is nothing to play for. You can be sure though that you'll always hear them !
20-30 , this is laughable really . fair play to the 20-30 but with support like that , the club can almost forget it .
The colours you'd see mainly at terryland anymore is grey and black and a bit of maroon, so yes there is plenty of certain colours !
I remember I saw the plans (early 90's) for the redevelopment of terryland . I suspect it's still a far cry from what they have now?
What is needed for GUFC to get out of this division is a new manager with fresh ideas (not a local junior manager but one with EL experience) and spend a little money on players that are used to the senior levels of the irish soccer seen (again its a big jump between local junior soccer and EL soccer).
I.e Cash and loads of it , an injections like Shamrock Rovers have just receive is the ticket I'd say.
There was an announcement a while back that there would be an open forum soon! Well, from what I heard, the forum was held (behind closed doors) and the only thing that I have heard from it is that a plan has been put i place to have GUFC running as a full-time club by the 2007 season
With gates like 600-700 eevry second week , I sincerely doubt it.
Merchandise appears to be a bit of a joke. i was looking to buy a galway united jersey recently and it appears as though there are none for sale????? Is this a joke? Look at the number of Galway GAA jersies there are about the place.
I buy at least 1 jersey, if not 2 in the Spurs Superstore. Okay GUFC are a far cry from that, as is any club in Ireland , but even a small stall at games to sell stuff like this should be an option.....check out the merchandise for any club in the very low etchelons of England.
It appears as though the EL , while a few improvements have happened in Dublin clubs is still so far away from other developed countries it beggers belief.
See is believing though
