Also it's worth considering that DFC started Towell's contract for the 2014 season on 1 Nov 2013, so he was one of the few guys at the club, and I think the only player, who was paid right through the winter.The club will not be allowing him to walk away unless a considerable fee is paid. Nesta makes a good point above re end of season, so it appears we will be covered at all angles.

These last few posts should really be on another thread, but while it's here, just thinking of another one, the 12-15k DLK paid for Horgan is looking like very good value for money now, think he scored in the last 5 including the cup game v Sligo on Fri (at last a link to the thread)

I have to say I hardly noticed his displays at Pats or Sligo and he was hot and cold in his first 6 months with us, I wasn't his biggest fan.

This year he is a first pick on merit and has contributed to possibly over 10 goals, at the same time making the right wing spot his own. At the start of the season he was behind Mountney, and then Ward was expected to come in, in front of him. He's shown very quick and consistent improvement since around April and has developed into one of our (surprisingly) better players.

Good point made in Oriel Friday night re Towell leaving - solidarity payment will still be made if he stays to november u23 etc. If he leaves in the summer then the potential weakening of the side and the impact of missing out on the league as a result and the money involved in qualifying for champions league could be the minimum level of fee required by the club to sell. So say 70k in solidarity payment + winning the league and champs league money could be the benefit to keeping him til end of contract. Lose him and gamble fading out of league challange then the fee should be a minimum of the above amount combined.

I wouldn't hold my breath on solidarity payments. A lot of the English clubs don't believe it applies to them and will only pay up when they're taken to court.

Well the thing is they don't tell you they're not going to pay it, they just never do. As far as I know solidarity fees aren't a pre-requisite for transferring registration.

I could have sworn I heard he was on a 2 year deal, with Fyffes picking up the slack in the off season, either way his contracts up the end of this season but the u23 thing applies. The thing with solidarity payments is they trickle down to all the previous clubs depending on amount of time spent there etc.

On a completely unrelated note I wonder if the cheque is still in the post from Derry for the solidarity payments for Griffin!

Draw details announced for next round

The draw for the Third Round of the FAI Ford Cup will take place on Friday, July 25 in Co Westmeath during the FAI AGM and Festival of Football week. The time and venue for the draw will be confirmed later.

The Third Round will take place on the weekend of August 24 with the Quarter-Finals on the weekend of September 14. The Semi-Finals are scheduled for Sunday, October 5 and the Final is fixed for the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, November 2.

Fifteen teams have already qualified for the Third Round with just one tie going to a replay. The Second Round replay between St. Michael’s and UCC will take place on Sunday, June 15 at Cooke Park, Tipperary Town, at 3pm.

The 15 teams already through are: Avondale United, Ballynanty Rovers, Bohemians, Cork City, Derry City, Drogheda United, Dundalk, Finn Harps, Galway, Longford Town, Malahide United, St Patrick’s Athletic, Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne, Wexford Youths.
